How to Save Money at Chaska Valley Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My cat was showing odd head shaking behavior and I was able to get in quickly at this vet. The doctor and tech were kind and very helpful. They were able to help me cat get the treatment and care she needed and get me on the calendar efficiently for follow-ups. Price a little higher than other vets, but the quality is well worth it!

PROFIT OVER PETS. A STOREFRONT FILLED WITH CARELESS ANIMAL ABUSERS AND INTENTIONAL MURDERS. They killed our beloved healthy 8 year old dog on his first visit offering zero follow-up or sympathy. They used a knowingly high risk, suspected deadly vaccine on our beautiful boy. The vaccine proved deadly and was still administered despite the vaccine company's past and current issues with deadly vaccines including the one given AND that the company is known by slogans such "profits over pets." There was zero respect for our family or our trained companion dog. They intentionally did not explain the risks of these vaccines. After two weeks in the hospital and many weeks (adding up to a few months) of 24 hour home care including fluids, medications, dietary changes, and supplements, under the guidance of caring veterinarians, which was better than the two to three weeks they shrugged off as nothing and gave us no information about the organ failure and associated pain, he was still not able to recover. This clinic and staff killed the life and love of our family with zero sympathy for something that should be considered malpractice. The entire clinic staff is heartless, knowingly deceptive and lack the basic knowledge and emotions that are necessary to care for anyone or anything. CVV stands together with Elanco in their grand vision of "PROFIT OVER PETS". A perfect example of this when we requested more subcutaneous fluids for our dog when he came home from the hospital, they wouldn't approve the order through Chewy at 6.99 a bag but would gladly give us the same bags for 99.00 each. They killed our dog, they knew he was dying, and they still tried to swindle us and decided it was fine to just let our dog die in pain and be done. We kept his levels the same for months and when he worsened, he passed with dignity and without suffering - at a very high emotional cost and well before his time. Everyone associated with the clinic should loose their legal standing to practice, to own or be around animals, and loose every asset they have professionally and personally gained through the maltreatment of all of the animals they have murdered for money. IF YOU GIVE THIS CLINIC YOUR BUSINESS YOU ARE PUTTING YOUR PET IN SERIOUS ENDANGERMENT AND LIKELY THEY WILL LEAD YOUR PET TO A PAINFUL DEATH IF YOU DON'T WATCH CLOSELY AS THEY TRADED THEIR PROFESSIONAL MANDATES AND PERSONAL MORALS IN ORDER MAKE ROOM FOR THEIR CHRONIC ABUSE, ENDANGERMENT AND CARELESS MURDER IN EXCHANGE FOR PERSONAL PROFITS. Their response is invalid as they contacted me knowing my name and my dogs name only to ask me to call back and then hang up on me. STAY AWAY FROM THESE HATEFUL, CARELESS, KILLERS.

Let me start by saying, our family has been coming to Chaska Valley Vet for more than 20 years. I grew up in Chaska, and also grew up taking my pets to see Dr Jody. She was there when my pets were babies, and she was there to help them cross the rainbow bridge when it was their time. Chaska Valley Vet is a wonderful establishment, with compassionate and caring staff. Now as an adult, I take all my pets to CVV and more specifically to see Dr Alyssa. She is always so caring, and genuinely loves all my pets as much as I do. She is so great at laying out all the options, and is straight forward when you need guidance and answers. Additionally, anytime my pets have seen any of the veterinary staff at CVV outside of Dr Alyssa, they bring the same care and attention to detail that you would want to see for your fur babies. I also love to see that staff retention is very consistent, and I rarely see a new face, which tells me it’s also a good place to work. Yes, the cost is a bit more than some of the surrounding vet clinics, but I will never sacrifice quality and caring, for saving a few bucks when it comes the health and safety of my pets. All of this to say, I am so happy with Chaska Valley Vet, and I know you will be too.

Always amazing and helpful. They are amazing to work with when we share a client who is boarding with us and needing a vet visit when their parents are out of town. The staff is wonderful and caring.

Our hometown veterinarian clinic. Our dog has been cared for here for 12 years. They are always welcoming. They help Buddy to be calm and cooperative. And, they are always professional, offering helpful guidance and treatment.
