How to Save Money at Willow Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Brought our cat in after another vet in town failed to help us understand what was going on with his health. They did blood work, x-rays, ultrasounds, etc. They were willing to put the time and effort into helping us find out what could have been causing the issues he was facing. Willow Pet staff gives exceptional care to our pets and us. They helped us understand, gave us our space as we decided there was nothing more we could do for him. We never felt rushed as we said our good byes and they gave us hugs as we left. A few days later we received flowers 💐 and a paw print. Nothing can beat the feeling of being cared for and they’ve proved to be supportive .. even many days after. They aren’t just a vet, they’re the best vet.. I don’t recommend anywhere else.

My husband and I were visiting from out of town when our lab came down with a UTI..Willow Pet Hospital was the only place that could see our Jenny that same day! They were so friendly and helpful. If I lived here they would be my first choice for quality pet care!

I only recently transferred my Mom's dog, Roy, over to Willows from Austin Vet, but just the initial visit was a big attitude change! Roy had always been afraid of the vet, shaking and barking more often, so I was pleasantly surprised when Roy started looking around and the vets were more than happy to greet him, and give him treats! He also had a history of yeast infections that never got truly treated with Austin Vet, but at Willows, hardly a week of medicating him and using their supplies to clean his ears, and for the first time in what seems like forever, his ears are actually clean and comfortable! It has been a major change that I am happy to see in Roy, and his two week checkup is in a few days to see how he's doing. All in all, Willow did more for Roy in one day than Austin Vet has done in four years for him. For vet clinics in Austin, we will be returning to Willows for years to come. It's a little more pricey, but financing options through Care Credit have made it a lot easier too. Our fur babies deserve the best. UPDATE: I wanted to give an update to my review. If I could give Willow 10 stars, I would. Just recently, my senior cat, Blizzard, was taken in for a dental. Though he wasn't able to get in due to other findings before his dental, he has been doing so well since the vets here at Willow have started treatments with him. My former barn cat with arthritis is back to pouncing and chasing his toys, trotting all around the house and demanding to be treated like the King he is. Though he's not quite ready to take on my kitten, I haven't seen him this happy in years. Thank you, Willow Pet Hospital, for caring for my fur family as much as I do!

Awesome place to bring large dogs. The vetnarians and staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. They keep the place very clean and well kept. We've had our two dogs get shots/pills, spay procedures, and puppy needs. Don't hesitate to call them. Must have appointment.
