How to Save Money at Cozy Cats Veterinary

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr. Levy is a fantastic veterinarian. She is dedicated to the care of our feline family members. Additionally She donates her expertise, time, and care to cat rescue groups. She has a wonderful practice! Highly recommend!

The medical staff are fantastic. We have visited five times since June 2023 and always received good care. Despite this fact, we need to find another vet after a series of negative interactions with the office staff. I called 31 May 2024 at 1:15 pm to schedule our annual appt for two cats. I was told they could not give my youngest a booster vaccine until July so I confirmed for 17 July 2024 at 2:00 pm. While traveling with my phone off 14 to 17 June 2024, I received a text from Cozy Cats reminding me of a Monday appt on 17 June 2024 at 2:00 pm. I did not receive this s message until Monday afternoon when I returned to cell service. Shortly after, the office staff called to ask when I was arriving. I was confused since we had discussed a 17 July appt, and thought they might mean the next day since I could make it work. Instead, they charged me a missed appt fee. I expressed my frustration and they offered to charge me for only one cat as a "courtesy." During our 17 June call, I asked that the officer manager re-listen to my initial 31 May call, which was recorded, to confirm I was scheduled for 17 July as I did not understand what had happened. I was told they would do so and would call me back. I called 25 June 2024 10:59 am after I had not heard back and asked to speak to the office manager, as I wanted to resolve this and reschedule our needed appt. She stated she was unable to listen to the 31 May call as her records did not go back that far, that my cat did not need to wait till July for vaccines, and because I was confused on my 17 June call, it was my mistake. She refunded the missed appt fee but stated I would be unable to schedule a tandem appt going forward because I cost the office money. Frustrated by this interaction, I requested a written copy of our vet records to move to another practice. In our notes, the office manager included a that I "called back a week later" and I "wanted [her] to go back 2 months to listen to that call when the appt was originally made and refund if [I] was in the right." I asked that she go back 17 calendar days to listen to my initial appt request on 31 May, and confirm when my youngest cat needed her vaccine. Why would I schedule a June appt if I was told I needed to wait till July for necessary vaccines? Our medical records clearly state our youngest is due for a booster 23 July 2024. If my cat did not need to wait till July, why did the staff say so on my 31 May call? If they record calls, why not go back and check? If this miscommunication was not my fault, why would I be prohibited from scheduling a tandem appt moving forward? I take an Uber each way to reach this practice. While it previously had been worth it for the quality medical care, I no longer believe it is. The lack of clear communication between the office staff and pet owners, and between the staff themselves, is concerning. The misrepresentation of this scenario in our cats medical records and an unwillingness to investigate the cause of the breakdown in communication is worse. I am devastated to be looking for another vet, but do not feel confident or comfortable entrusting the care of my pets to this office.

I am extremely disappointed with the service I received at Cozy Cats. The office staff I talked to were not only condescending, but also outright rude when I simply called to buy more prescription food. They threatened to report me to animal control because my cats were not up to date on their rabies vaccines. They treated me with a complete lack of empathy and understanding. They said if I don't vaccinate my cats within 10 days and notify them with proof, then they will report me. I understand the importance of vaccinations, but the manner in which this was communicated was unprofessional and callous. A little bit of kindness and respectful communication goes a long way, especially in a field where compassion is crucial. Instead, I was made to feel like a terrible pet owner without any effort to educate or assist me in a supportive way. I was at their office at least 6 times between my two cats during the last half of last year. I think I spent over $1500 with very little results. One of my cats was past due for the rabies vaccine during my last visit. They did not say a word that it is required by law or going to report me. Also, my other cat needed the rabies vaccine earlier this year. I received a reminder email from Cozy Cats, but nothing about it being required. I can only think that their business is now struggling due to their poor business practices so they are trying to pressure their customers. I expected much better from a place that is supposed to care for animals and their owners. I will not be returning and would advise others to consider finding a more compassionate veterinary clinic. Edit after business replied: Their statement confirms exactly what I had an issue with and did not address my issues, such as not being told the rabies vaccine is required during my prior visits when it was already past due. Them mentioning my cat needs to be seen once a year to refill prescriptions is completely irrelevant since I was there several times less than a year ago.

Absolutely top notch veterinary care for kitties. Every aspect of care at Cozy Cats is incredible. The front desk staff are friendly, competent, always take their time to work with you on scheduling, and are clearly animal lovers. The techs are amazing, they take such detailed information about every aspect of your cat's wellbeing, are huge cat lovers, are so sweet to even cats that may not necessarily reciprocate, and clearly love their profession. The vets are incredibly knowledgeable, take their time explaining diagnostics and potential diagnoses, don't rush the appointments at all, and spend time getting to know your cat (and give them snuggles). The overall experience here is so much better than other vets I have seen - the cat-only environment is much less stressful, and the obvious love of cats from every person who works there means that they get snuggles, petting, treats, and gentle, careful care at all times. One of my cats required a large dose of sedatives to be seen at my previous vet - she is perfectly fine at Cozy Cats without any medication. I can't recommend this practice highly enough and will absolutely be a lifelong client with my clowder of kitties.

We moved to Maryland 6 years ago and had no idea where to go for veterinary services for our Siamese cat. Someone recommend A Cat Practice and we discovered the best cat vet in all of Maryland in our opinion. Last year we adopted cat number 2 and he has also been a regular patient of the practice. We are so happy with the staff; even through the pandemic they have been wonderful. Our Siamese needed surgery at the height of the pandemic and everything went perfect! We recommend A Cat Practice and gladly give them 5 stars! ADDITIONAL REVIEW; we were cat sitting our daughter’s little angel Luna when she had a health issue and needed immediate surgery. Our daughter was in the process of moving to California (and house hunting in California) so there were a lot of technical issues to overcome, including that our daughter’s cat (9 years old) had never been a patient of the practice. The entire team jumped in to help us get everything in order, get our grandcat seen and operated on and they continued to do follow up even after Luna moved to California with our daughter. No obstacle was too hard to overcome. Top notch, best cat practice on earth.
