How to Save Money at Petwell Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I assisted a client to the clinic to say goodbye to her beloved 14yo dog. This is not the regular vet but the dog was really sick. The person who administered the medicine was, imo, heartless. I've seen animals put to sleep before and it was not handled like this. She administered the meds, checked the heartbeat, and said "Sorry for your loss.ok she's gone. Let me know when you're done and we'll come get her." Really?! The family is in pieces and that's the best you can do? When my 2 animals were put to sleep, at another vet, everyone was so kind and thoughtful. They light a candle at the front so ppl know someone is grieving a loss. This was just ridiculous. Would never go back.

I definitely don’t recommend this place. We’ll not be going back!!! It is super expensive and did not resolve my problem with my cat. All she recommended was as blood work & Medicine that wasn’t needed. Went to another Animal Hospital, and exactly when the doctor came in & touch my cat & hearing out for his liver and heart. He instantly knew what was wrong with him with out radiograph. And told me my cat was constipated. I would love to get my money back!!!!

DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE!!! I would leave a zero star rating if I could. This lady does not know how to talk to people. She appears heartless when it comes to one’s family pet. I was in there for five mins tops before walking out. Do not waste your time with this establishment.

Today we had to put our Yorkshire down unexpected. He was in kidney failure.. First time ever been to pet well veterinarian and I found the place to be exceptionally clean and Dr. E was compassionate and understanding. Dr E was wonderful she let us take as much time as we needed to say goodbye. I fully recommend this place

Dr. E is no doubt a good vet, but the price I had to pay for the 2 visits I have had for my rescue from BARCS was astronomical! The first for just the basics was almost 1,000 dollars. I could have fallen over. I stayed with him and watched and helped but she gave no indication of what her prices would be. The second visit was for diarrhea and vomiting and the price was $500. I asked before she began doing things on the second visit and was told that it didn’t matter what the cost. I must pay. What threw me the most was that on the second visit she told me that I needed to tip her new assistant that didn’t speak English. I asked what she meant. She said he did a good job standing with my dog on a table so I should tip him. I looked in my wallet and only had a $20. I asked for change and she said I will give it to him later from this and you will be given the difference applied to your bill today. I said I needed the change now to use for something on my way home. She disappeared for a while. She came back with a paper in her hand and gave me change. When I checked the change it should have been $15 because of a $5 tip. It was only $11. I asked why the change was wrong? She said “ I told you I had to buy a paper. What? So, I had to pay for her paper because she had no money in her drawer so breaking the $20 to tip her helper, was my cost. Unbelievable! Unfortunately I don’t feel she cares for my dog as much as she cares about making money. I won’t be going back!! I really feel taken advantage of! 🫤
