How to Save Money at Bond Vet - Chestnut Hill

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We love Bond Vet! We took our senior dog here for a dental consult and got so much more! Her previous vet told us that she needed a dental cleaning and extraction, but wasn’t able to fit her in for another 6 months. When we took her here for a consult with Dr. Horgan, not only did she have nearly immediate availability to do the procedure, but she examined her and brought to our attention several things that our previous vet never mentioned to us. Dr. Horgan & her team were great with our dog’s dental surgery. They sent updates throughout the day and thoroughly explained everything to us, which provided a lot of peace of mind.

It used to be such a positive experience bringing my pet in for regular check-ups; my dogs were always happy and we felt genuinely welcomed. However, everything changed when my dog developed a serious teeth problem requiring surgery. Despite the high price tag of nearly $2k, I was prepared to proceed and quickly scheduled the appointment. Yet, on the day of the surgery, I received a very last-minute same day cancellation notice, leaving me in the lurch. With no follow-up calls from the vet, I had to repeatedly reach out every two weeks just to check on availability. The surgery kept getting delayed, and after two months, my dog's tooth fell out on its own. Feeling abandoned and frustrated, I'm now forced to seek care elsewhere. I won't be returning, and good luck retaining your clients when you treat them like this.

I have been a loyal customer with BondVet for years mostly with BondVet in NYC and seaport. However have never had such a bad experience like this one. We booked the apportionment few days ahead of time, but when arriving on time, only to find out it was closed. I searched for email or voice mail, only saw an email saying that THEY are sorry that WE can not make the appointment, and only sent couple hours ahead on the same day. ??? I was so confused. I called the service team getting that this store has to closed on that day ( no effective prior inform, no reason, no communication). Well bond vet charge customer fee for no show, why don’t they give compensation to patients when they NO SHOW. Me and my fam and my poor little cat had to wait in the rainy day in front of their closed door with a qualified appointment….and it was hard to get a walk in elsewhere that day… my poor cat…such wordless experience here…

They were super nice and informative. The vet and vet assistant took the time to explain everything to us and gave us a clear cost estimate before getting started. Their facilities are very clean and friendly and they had treats our cats loved. Fairly priced and good customer care

I brought my dog skittle into urgent care because he was having bloody diarrhea. The vet was very friendly and gentle with my dog during his check up. I left skittle there for 30 minutes to grab lunch while they did a blood test and rehydrated him with fluids under his skin. When we came back the vet was highly informative about the test results which came back normal and gave me instructions on the medicine and food he has to take for the next two weeks. We noticed almost over night that his stools were improving from the anti diarrhea meds coming out firm with no sign of any blood. I am super thankful for the team at Bond Vet for taking care of skittle and helping him with his recovery. And I would definitely recommend Bond Vet for all your urgent care needs.
