How to Save Money at Cypress Lake Animal Hospital: Lambert Amy S DVM

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My 12yr old cat was lethargic and started to throw up water so we took him to cypress lake and they took him in as a critical patient. He had to spend 5 days in the hospital, but now he is back home and his old grumpy self again. I love the communication they had with us and his regular vet. The staff is so friendly and compassionate and the cost is easy on the wallet. I would definitely recommend them to everyone I know.

Drove an hour after hurricane Ida to the vet my cat was not doing well drs and team at cypress were very compassionate for my cat and did everything they possibly good to get him better . So pleased with the communication with the dr and staff calling with updates while my cat stayed over night. Thank you so much for making me feel comfortable at the choice I made.

On a Saturday my dog had a sudden emergency with his eye. I panicked while I scrolled through Google to find all nearby vets were closed. Then I found this one, open 24/7, 20 minutes away and after a quick call we headed that way. They worked quickly to start helping him and told us there was even a vet ophthalmologist (eye specialist) there at the time who could look at him. They were very transparent and upfront about costs for everything and gave us options. They obviously valued what was best for me and my dog over the money, and I can’t express how much I appreciated it. They were all so friendly, compassionate, confident, and put me at ease when I needed it most. It gives me such peace of mind to know that they are there if my pets have an emergency again. It was worth every penny and then some.

I would not use this place if you have other options. I called them on a Sunday bc my dog was having an allergic reaction to something. The girl who answered, I believe her name is Brandy or Brittany, told me that the doc was in surgery but she would check to see how long the wait would be. After holding for a minute she came back on and told me that he was out of surgery and that he could see me, but warned me that if his surgery patient became critical he would have to step out of our room and tend to that patient. Totally fine with that so I rush up there. I live 3 miles away. I get there, and as I’m getting my 200 pound great Dane out of the car she walks outside to say, “ oh, I forgot to tell you on the phone, we can’t let you in …this has to be a curbside visit because they are cleaning inside”….. so already not very happy because who wants to sit in a car with a 200 pound great Dane waiting for the doctor to come outside. Had I known that ahead of time I would’ve found somewhere that could take him and see him inside the clinic. So I ask her, OK well can he be seen right now like you stated on the phone and she said well let me go check. She comes back outside and tells me well it’s going to be 30 minutes to an hour. So naturally I am pretty upset because I can’t wait in a car with a great Dane for an hour. I asked her why she didn’t tell me that on the phone and she told me she did. That was a lie…she did not tell me that it would be an hour wait she told me to come up that he was out of surgery and he could see me now. I would have never even attempted to go there had I known there would even be a wait. She doesn’t apologize, in fact she gets an attitude with me as if it’s my fault. Such a waste of time and extremely disappointing ….will never utilize this clinic…terrible customer service.
