How to Save Money at Whiteland Animal Clinic (Our New Name: Animal Clinic Whiteland Greenwood)

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The office is dated and needs fixed and a very good cleaning. The doctor and the nurses were great. He spoke to me at length about what was happening. He wasn't just trying to sell me on a bunch of unneeded things. He was cautious around my cat which is advised as he is an outside cat mostly and doesn't trust most people. I will definitely be going back and look forward to seeing the new location.

We didn't feel rushed today when we had to our dog down. They asked if we wanted more time to say goodbyes, they let me hold him as long as I needed, and they gave us the sweetest card with his paw prints. I bawled when I opened it. Thank you guys.

First let me start by saying the staff is wonderful. They are very kind and friendly. The vet, not so much! He hardly interacts with the animal or the human. He has misdiagnosed two of my pets, I can only assume that it’s because he is rushing through and not listening. He seems to want to sell you expensive meds that are not needed since the diagnosis is not correct. I know they are relocating; but this office is gross and very dirty. I highly recommend you find someone else. I can assure you, I will not be taking my animals back. The two star rating was only because of the awesome support staff!

I took my dog back in May to get a check up on a issue he was having with his nose. The first appointment I had they called me 2 hours before to tell me that the doctor went home sick. When I call to make another appointment the girl on the phone told me that he was in surgery that day and nobody knew about it. I find it hard to believe that the staff wouldn't know that. I felt like I was lied to. When I went in for the rescheduled appointment the girl at the desk didn't say hello or greet me. I told her I was here with my dog and I had an appointment for 12:30. Her response was, "We don't have any rooms available." I said I'm not leaving because I have an appointment and you already canceled on me before. She told me to wait in my car and then they would call me when a room came available. She could have just told me they we're running behind and I would have been fine with that but her approach was completely unprofessional. Everything went downhill from there. The vet was awkward and never looked me in the eye. He didn't even barely look at my dog's nose but then wanted to take X-rays of his chest. They had a hard time getting the muzzle on him so the girl comes into the other room where I'm at and hands me a muzzle and I have no idea what it was. She tells me to put it on my dog. I had no idea how to put it on and it was way too small and it was rubbing on the infection he had on his nose. He was not having it. He was fighting me and I told the girl, "This is not my job to put the muzzle on him." I told her I was done and I was leaving. I insisted that they gave me a prescription for antibiotic for his nose because that's what I went in for. Everybody there was just unprofessional like they all just got out of vet school. And as I was leaving I noticed they still had a small Christmas tree on a table in their lobby. It's May people take your Christmas decor down! Needless to say, I will never return. The only reason I went was because I got a free visit. It was awful.

This is a great group of people. They take great care of my dogs, they don't pressure you into unnecessary services, and they are very kind and professional. My only negative is that I didn't start coming here years ago.
