How to Save Money at Rescued Heart Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Updated August 13th 2023 Going to include new pictures on Wednesday August 9th 2023 Rescued Heart Animal Hospital seen my post and said that it was a “nasty“ post and if the post was not removed they wouldn’t see my cat also that my mom would need to take responsibility for him when it came to him and his care with them. So I removed my post as they asked and since my mom has been trying to get him seen with excuse after excuse and no other vets wanted to see him since he established “care” with Rescued Heart already. Today is now Sunday August 13th 2023 my cat still has not been seen even after I removed this post as they asked. At 3am my cat had to be took to a 24hr vet hospital that I know can’t do anything for him cause he now he is breathing shallow his condition never got better after his neuter that was done without permission and their reasoning was medically he needed it but seem it only made it worse!) If you care for your pets NEVER bring them here. My cat was brought in on Monday July 31st 2023 for being blocked. My cat has been a healthy cat up until this last year he now has a chronic illness so he is considered a special patient to them. He has been blocked a couple times and had to be brought in so this was a normal routine I thought! My cat was neutered by a Dr.Noel on Monday July 31st 2023 when I had brought him in and I wasn’t informed or told until Wednesday August 2nd 2023. I was upset they neutered him without my permission he’s a house cat so neutering him was never even an option for me. But they claimed it was medically needed and that they needed to do it because it was supposed to help. They released him Friday August 4th 2023 claimed he’d been eating and doing fine. I know that was a lie he was skin and bones when he was picked up Friday. Since then he still hasn’t ate and has constantly been urinating on himself. He won’t move and when he tries his back legs just give out. My cat has never done this or acted this way so I tried to speak to someone but they were closed Sunday to I waited till Monday August 7th 2023. I spoke to Dr.Noel the one who went ahead and just decided to neutered him without my permission and charged me for! I asked if she can see him and figure out what’s going on and that I refused to pay this time considering I just paid $349 out of a $700 bill on Friday (mind you this is his 5th or 6th time in there) and I have to pay every time he gets picked up. She then said that she did it under a feral cat act so she only charged me $45 she can give me back in credit. I told her no I want my cat seen not a credit back she then tells me to put a parent on the phone. Mind you this is my cat I’m grown and I pay his bill and that’s exactly what I said she then proceeded to say “ what’s going on with my cat is not her problem or responsibility cause it has nothing to do with his neutered and from what she can see I don’t pay my bills” then hung up on me. When I called the front office to speak and ask someone to reach out to Dr. newcomb the lady at the front put another front desk representative “Julie” on the phone who told me “I need to watch my attitude and my mouth when speaking to there Dr” But they speak to anyone how ever they want completely UNPROFESSIONAL. They act this way cause they are privately owned so they think they are allowed to treat people however they want. If your pet is like family please bring them somewhere else my 5 year old has had this cat since she was 2 and he was 6 weeks. And since Friday we have just been watching him suffer it’s terrible. All this place cares about is money and I wish I would of read the other reviews before bringing him here. First 2 pictures of my cat are from before and the last 2 are after his procedure. Also have pictures and receipts for all his bills I “don’t” pay. The picture below is our kitty on his last ride we were trying to get him to the 24hour vet hospital in Peoria. But he could not hold on and he did not make it. Please if you love your pet Don't take your pet to rescued heart animal hospital.

Such a great place! We brought 3 baby squirrels here who needed to be rehabilitated. They said they will rehab them and let them out at Forest Nature Park. We are so grateful for their service!

Your service is exceptional! Our CAT is doing well and eating like she'd never been operated on. Thank you for your prompt efforts.

friendly staff and affordable. Staff helped me get my dog spay after a pregnancy scare when my dog let her nephew mounted her during her heat cycle. They let me make a almost half upfront the the remainder 2 weeks after the spay. I am taking my male dog there in the near future to get neutered. This veterinary practice has my business for life. I have already referred many friends to their office
