How to Save Money at Indian Creek Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Ive been coming here for 6 or 7+ years. They are pretty affordable, they are very gentle with bad news, they love and treat my animals with care which is huge for me. My dog was a frequent flyer for a while and they loved seeing him. They listen! I cant tell you i went to a few vets over the years and they just dismissed me saying my animal was fine and never looked and i lost my childhood cat over something cureable. Indian creek vets listen and check everything you ask them about.

I absolutely adore Dr. Ludwig and trust her with my beloved pooch. The staff is friendly, the doctor is knowledgeable and has experience as a pet owner of many breeds as well as the veterinary knowledge and experience. Had an issue with my dogs behavior and resource guarding me at the office and Dr. Ludwig picked up on it immediately and took care of us in the best way. I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone.

A few weeks ago we took our cat in due to him having a bump on his head that kept growing. When my husband first got there, Dr Cassie Hamilton took a rectal temperature (It took 3 times for her to get it and by then our cat was upset ) He freaked out which caused him to fall off the table and he ended up cutting his lip open which she said would heal within a few weeks. They needed to keep him over night to run some tests and do some x rays so the following day she told my hubby they drained the bump and he had a fungal infection so got him on some antibiotics. The weird thing is, in our paper work for our insurance she didn’t write any of the things that actually happened at the clinic. Instead she wrote that she suspected abuse and was worried about our cats care. My husband and I went in to talk to her in person and she denied ever saying our cat had an infection, denied taking his temperature and causing him to cut his lip open, denied shaving his neck and tail (we still don’t know why she even did that), and said my husband came in with the cat like that. She also mentioned we had 8 kids even though we only have 4. We told her she might have the wrong family but she said she didn’t and would not change what she wrote in the paperwork . If we were abusing him why would we take the time to get him looked at? He’s a rescue cat and we took him to another vet who said he looks wonderful and weren’t concerned about anything. I’m not sure what her intentions were on lying about the situation but I wouldn’t recommend her to anyone. You tell me… does this look like an abused cat?

Super friendly staff. My cat was completely relaxed with staff and doctor so not stressful for him. The doctor encouraged questions and was very thorough. They didn’t recommend anything “extra” as far as procedures which I really appreciated.
