How to Save Money at Mountain Park Plaza Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Very upset about how they treated my dog. My dog went into a room for observation. I went to my car to get my phone.when I came back I saw them take my dog from the floor leaning over her and grabbing her front and back leg and flipping her on the table. They said that’s how they do it. I took her to that vet for 10 years. I totally believed in the office doctor. Every time she came home she could barely walk, Do not ever let a vet take your animal to the back EVER! It’s not normal except in the state of Georgia. You have a right and it should be a feeling in your heart. Vets are the best people on the planet but you have to take care of your pets ad well as yourself. I took my Baby Lucky to this vet and could never get it to why she couldn’t walk thinking she was anxious and then saw with my own eyes.

Wonderful staff! Always accommodating and helpful. Dr Feniza and Dr Koczen take great care of all my furry family members, especially my little old lady Taffy, my little old man Teddy and of course, Arthur. The techs are great to work with and love the animals. Emily is the best groomer ever!

I've taken My pets here for many years, but after an experience last year I will not be taking any pets here again. I brought my dog in with cancer, telling them several times he was having nausea. They called me later to say the cancer is back and they could put him down right now if I wanted to. I said no we will take him home for palliative care for his final few days. When I returned to pick up my dog, the doctor or staff didn't even take me into a room to talk about my dogs health, I requested to speak to the doctor to get more information, instead they kept me in the waiting area for a long time, crying because of the terrible news I just got, never taking me back into a room to speak with me or anything. When I finally did speak to the doctor, it was still in the waiting room, I was clearly upset and crying, the doctor just said keep his normal routine and come back on Monday to get an operation if we wanted. (My dog died two days before monday) It was at this point I realized the doctor was never made aware of the nausea, and told me to come back if he started throwing up. Not even ten minutes in the car and he started vomiting again, I pulled over and called the vets to try to take him back for nausea medicine, they told me no take him home. By the next morning he was vomiting constantly and extremely ill and lost the ability to walk. At this point I called a mobile vet to come to my house, who actually gave my dog the nausea medicine that should have given the day before, and gave me the answers about how to keep my dog comfortable, was extremely compassionate and caring. I called this office back to ask if I should bring my back in, coldly answered "why would you?". They never called to check in my dog or anything. My dog was put to sleep at home a couple days later.. I wasn't going to say anything, but there is a clear lack of bedside manner, failure to address the reason we came in, it left a bad taste in my mouth. Who tells someone their dog is dying in a busy waiting room? After switching vets for my other dog, the difference in care and compassion is apparent

Between my German Shephard and my cats, I have found Mountain Park Plaza Animal Hospital to be of top professionalism and quality. My dog has been boarded there three times, all of his vaccinations and visits are handled there, and I have no reason to look elsewhere. I have brought them a cat I did not know everything about and have found the appointment, vaccination needs, and grooming services to exceed my expectations. Great staff, ease of appointment making, drop off and pick up, nothing to complain about. I have happy and healthy pets and owe a portion of that to Mountain Park, my hope is that this review helps others on the look out for a good full-service veterinary location to go there.

I'm glad that others are happy but I am not. My dogs were groomed and came home with fleas and my girl had a half dollar nick in which I am applying antibiotic ointment. I should have walked away the first time as customer service is everything to me and I did not feel welcomed. Reluctantly, I returned and $324 later I feel as I let my pets down. No need to respond...but very unhappy customer.
