How to Save Money at VCA Lilburn Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Totally agree with Drew. The doctors and nurses are really great. The front office is the WORST. I had an appointment today for my puppy who I think has kennel cough. My appointment was at 2 pm. My puppy is literally coughing up a lung so I pull over and give him some water. I arrive at 2:09 pm. The young woman called at 2:06 and literally cancel my appointment as I am pulling in. She was incredibly rude and unprofessional. Please do not waste you time here. Go to Killian Hill Animal Hospital instead. They are friendly, professional and courteous.

I love this clinic! Before diving into everything great, I do want to preface this by saying VCA is a little more expensive than most places in the area, but I also want to say you 100% get what you pay for. I am fortunate enough to be in a situation where cost is not necessarily a primary concern for me, but if it is for you, just know that coming in. Moving forward though - I have never been to a clinic where I feel welcomed, and where my pet, even though very stressed, by the end of the visit, is calmed down enough to even explore the room a bit. This staff is excellent. I mean that. E X C E L L E N T. I have had every doctor I visited with follow up with me, call me, provide ways to contact them. I have had questions pop up when I couldnt get an appointment or that were quick questions, and they are always happy to lend a hand! Even the techs who come in to check the basics are extremely kind and knowledgeable. I really do appreciate this clinic, they are the best of the best, and I have no intentions of ever taking my cat anywhere else. I only wish I could take my ferrets to them as well :P Thank you all for all you do! :) -Adam and Oni

In early October 2022, we brought our cat, Max, in because he was gagging. In my 4 decades of being a dog owner, I have never had a vet refuse to give suggestions about the possible causes and recommend a test. The young vet said that we need tests, but kept her mouth shut on which test. We (husband and I ) were made to feel scared. We were offered packages the highest of which was $700 and included fecal and urinalysis. We thought it may be digestive (having no input from vet) so we selected that package because it was the only one with a fecal and urinalysis. We were given a kit to collect the samples at home At $700, you would think they would keep the cat and collect the samples themsleves. We were unable to catch the urine and never turned in the sample because we are not experts at animal care as a vet should be. We received NO refund of a portion of the $700. We complained, but were scolded on social media. We were never contacted although they have our phone number. We complained to Twitter corporate and have never received a reply. The gagging resolved in a coufew days. We figure it was a hairball due to Max licking our kitten. So, we paid $700 for a hairball that a vet should have been able to spot in seconds. VCA is owned by Mars and appears to be a cash cow for unethical business practice. In my opinion

Haven't been back since I had to put my forever furbaby down last October, but I couldn't find a groomer for my new baby so I decided to return to my vet of 14 years. As always everyone is super kind and informative. They were so excited to meet Jax. Anyway, I waited about 8 weeks to get an appointment with my favorite groomer which I didn't mind becauae Barbara is so good. However, prior to his groom Jax had to have a quick exam to get his flu vaccine and in true VCA form...the vet called to give me an update and chat about Mr. Jax which I really appreciate. Glad to be back.

I love the staff here and VCA Lilburn! They're genuinely interested in the well being of my fur kids (2 cats and 1 dog). They always try and find ways to help me save money on expenses and give me discounts when available. I will continue to take my babies here so long as I know they're under their care.
