How to Save Money at East Metro Animal Emergency Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

East Metro Animal Emergency Clinic is such a blessing to have in our area. I have had to take my pets there many times throughout the years. Yesterday I had to take my sweet pup of 13 years to the clinic due to a cardiac event she was having. Sadly she did not make it, but the love and care she received while there meant so much to me. Dr. Miller and her staff showed me so much compassion while I had my last moments with my sweet pup. They were so kind to me and it really meant a lot. While I wish things could have turned out differently, I am very thankful that the East Metro team took care of my baby in her final moments. Thank you for all you do!

I empathize with there being only one doctor on duty and that she is busy, but the complete disregard this doctor had for us last night was heart breaking. The only interaction we were given was when she handed me the clipboard with the price on it. We waited for hours trying to figure out what we should do with a $1200 bill (this was only for testing & bloodwork.) not once did this doctor stop by to have any kind of conversation, instead she had a nurse communicating with us. The worst part is when we decided to leave, we paid the office visit and we saw the doctor talking in great detail and attention with a guy who had just walked in and had his puppy sent to examine. Maybe she didn’t want to deal with us because she knew we didn’t have the money, or maybe because my dog is old; either way this is no way of going about your practice. Just disgraceful. This doctor was a Caucasian woman with blonde hair and I believe she had glasses (I was very distraught and tired at this point) I pray over this establishment I would NEVER wish this kind of behavior from a doctor onto anyone.

After being refused by another emergency clinic (that stated they see emergencies). I called EMAEC, I spoke with Anthony who was super compassionate on the phone, we decided it was better to be safe than sorry with our Bindi. We drove from Monroe to the clinic. We were welcomed and greeted right away, Anthony remembered our call and took our girl back right away to get her vitals. We were put in a room quickly. Anthony peeked in to see if we had been seen yet, we told him no, and someone was right in to take Bindi back to see the Vet. Dr. Liu came in and was very personable kind, and compassionate. He told us both the pros and cons and we decided to go ahead and get an X-ray just to be safe. Dr Liu was very thorough and explained everything to us. I definitely recommend EMAEC for your furbaby's emergencies!

Absolutely horrible!!! They only care how much money they can get from you while your dog is sitting there suffering. They killed my dog. Gov Kemps office, ASPCA, all news channels have been informed. Can't wait for this place to face justice!! Animal cruelty, animal neglect and human bullying. Shame on you all!

Tonight I said goodbye to my best friend of 18 years. Waiting until morning to take her to a different vet for euthanasia was no longer a kind or fair option for my baby. They are were able to take us on at 10:30pm on a Sunday. Their prices were very affordable. And the vet and other staff were incredibly compassionate and kind. It’s been one of the hardest nights of my life but they were a great choice.
