How to Save Money at All Pets & Paws Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

If I could leave a zero I would. I debating on writing this but if you want your animal to live or be treated nicely go somewhere else. I took my husky who stopped walking abruptly and there were no tests done. I asked multiple times, the Dr seemed like she forgotten what we talked about last time as far as treatment and she suggested shots to see if they'd work. After spending hundreds on treatment that did nothing and watching my dog decline and give up... I called several times in between to see about imaging and to bring her back in and blood work and nobody would call me back at all. Every time I went in there the staff had an attitude except one. They act like you being there is an inconvenience to their life and will not return phone calls. After my dog died 2 weeks after their "treatment" and them not returning my calls.. my boyfriend reached out due to them having a contract for cremation and we dropped her off for cremation. I was assured that I would get a phone call the day she was returned, I waited all day and finally called and she had been there, they just didn't call. Nobody was in the waiting room when I showed up and there were 2 of them just sitting and talking behind the desk. I will never return here and I hope everyone else will think twice before doing the same. It's like pulling teeth to get them to care for your dog and I advised several times money was not an issue I just wanted to know what was wrong with her. After taking her to an emergency vet the night she passed they advised they should've done blood work first instead of just guessing and using my animal as a test dummy for treatment for 100s of dollars.

We will not take any of our animals to this vet again. The staff did not give me accurate information when I booked my appointment. So when my bill was higher than the amount I was quoted, they gave little to no explanation. Their callous & brash disregard of “THEIR” oversight was remarkable. I don’t know how businesses stay open with employees that treat customers like this. I don’t expect things for free, but I do expect to be treated with respect.

These people do not care about your animals!! They neglected my cat who was very sick and in pain and needed immediate medical attention. I wanted to take him elsewhere but these people were the only one available for immediate care. They misdiagnosed him, gave him the wrong meds, he got worse, took him back, brushed me off, and I left. I took him to another animal hospital and they IMMEDIATELY called the Veterinarian in to perform an emergency evaluation. He had an extreme bladder infection and bladder stones. Unfortunately there was nothing to be done and we had to put him down. This would have NEVER happened if this dismissive people would have PROPERLY evaluated my poor boy and gave him the right medication a week ago. He was only 2. He was in extreme pain and they gave him 3 days of pain meds and nothing else. No antibiotics for the infection, nothing. DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE!!!!
