How to Save Money at Animal Emergency Care of Braselton

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I love Dr. Wilkes and the staff I met. I went in with my dog (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) in July after a freak accident. I was told about what happened too late and unfortunately he was in bad shape and there wasn't anything that really could be done, but to have him put to sleep. I appreciate the way Dr. Wilkes explained everything and showed me personally what was going on in the x-rays (instead of just telling me). One of the things I appreciate most is her calm and caring demeanor. Even though the accident didn't happen under my watch, I still felt incredibly guilty over it, but she never was judgmental or made me feel bad about the situation. The staff is super friendly. Amanda at the front desk was super sweet, and pet him which he loved. I forgot the Technician's name but he was sweet and gentle when handling Bailey. It was a horrible situation but being there and having him being taken care of by the right people, made the process go smoother. To my surprise they asked me to wait out in my car for the mold of his paw and I recently got a handwritten card in the mail. Thank you so much for taking great care of my fur buddy!

This place easily saved my kitty’s life. In August, our cat ate styrofoam. He was lethargic, throwing up, and in critical condition. We rushed him into the emergency vet, where they ran a complete checkup, and preformed stomach ultrasounds. They decided to keep him overnight, where they ran several more ultrasounds, and kept him on IVs. In the morning, they transferred him to the local vet, where he had surgery to get the styrofoam removed. We were so worried he wasn’t going to make it, but due to their well trained staff and immediate actions, he remained stable overnight. They even kept us updated, which definitely helped alleviate much of the stress. 5 days after surgery, he was acting off again, and we were told he needed to go back to the emergency vet immediately, as his intestines may have been leaking. In the car, he seemed to have passed out, so they took him in immediately. In tears, we thought we were going to lose our baby. Luckily, he was just dehydrated, and was safe. They gave him IVs, and a new prescription diet. Once again, they kept us updated every step of the way. They kept our baby alive, and had an incredible, compassionate, and empathetic staff. Like all vets, it was pricey, and the wait could be a little long, but nothing we wouldn’t do for our kitty. The pictures are our kitty Edmond today, at almost 2 years old!

I am at this vet right now. The staff, everyone except the actual doctor on duty, were amazing. However, the doctor is a horrible communicator and is not amiable at all. She presents you with two options. One is super high with all the test. The lower bill still has a lot that isn't necessary and can be done at our regular vet in the morning...like worm medicine. She has no patience with questions about the medicines, why they are important, and talks over you instead of listening. Her tone is condescending like she thinks you are ignorant and a simpleton who is not taking care of your dog. When I spoke to her, her body language was hostile. She was obviously stressed out and tightening her hands, not making eye contact. I will never take my dog here again just because of the doctor.

We were able to get in at 1:00am Alex was great...Cheech has a ruptured mass on top of his head the size of a golf ball that wouldn't stop bleeding 😔 they help us slow down the bleed and sold us a no shake helmet 🪖 so that we could make it through the night until surgery at our vet 1 day later. The veterinarian was awesome he was very helpful and they went out of their way to help us to the best of their ability with out over charging us since he needed surgery 💚 after hours emergency vet care $56 we need the helmet 🪖 for after surgery today anyway so it was a smooth and wonderful experience for the Thomas family and our Cheech 💯
