How to Save Money at Cliftwood Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I started to write a bad review to keep people away from my vet! Dr. Kessel and staff are amazing. I’ve never met a better vet. And she’s the preeminent vet in North GA for pregnant dogs, csections, and IVF. We’re luck to be able to take our pets to Cliftwood.

The office staff is horrible. Tritia, the new girl is an airhead and the manager Andrea is a female dog for lack of better words.. These 2 staff members sucks at customer service. I called with an emergency only to be challenged by Andrea, the, female dog. Instead of hearing me out, she wanted to argue with everything that I said, which had nothing to do with her. I initially spoke to Tritia which whom I had to explain my reason for calling multiple times. "I came in last week and my dog was seen for an ultrasound and was set for surgery the following week, and she delivered 3 pups over night which have now passed on. My dog is in labor and I need help" The 1st time her reply was and how can I help you?? 2nd she says have you been seen by us before.. and the last time she puts me on hold for Andrea to take over the call. I then explain a 4th time to Andrea who wants to argue and challenge everything. She took everything so personal as if I blamed her for the unfortunate incident. Ive never been met with so much opposition when seeking help. As Im explaining to her whats going on she started talking over me. Then said I screamed at her which I had to explain I do have a disability, but she couldn't hear me because she was talking at the same time as me! She then says why didnt you seek emergency attetnion.. HELLOOOO!! That is why I called them in the 1st place. After I explain about the babies passing she says "we didnt have anything to do with the breeding".. Huh??? I never said you did.. I wish my regular vet was not on vacation. She tells me to come, then calls me back and tells me to go someplace else. Thats when things became ugly. She is very unprofessional and too sensitive to work within the service industry. Also she is not solution oriented, she wants to battle a paying customer.. I arrive at the vet and now the vet is too busy to come out and talk to me because its no telling what she said to her.. But At least you will see this at some point. Thanks for nothing. The only person that did her job was the lady with the jet black hair. Thank you for being proactive and listening. (Sorry, I didnt get her name)

I’ve been at cliftwood for over 2 years now. My extended family also goes to cliftwood and that’s how I was able to find out about them. To say they’re amazing is an understatement. I’ve cried tears of sorrow, joy, desperation there and the office staff as well as the doctors and techs have always listened and assisted in areas where I could not when it comes to my fur babies. Whenever I’ve had an issue with my pets, I’ll call and they’ll always find a way to see me whether that’s squeezing me in for a drop off appointment or seeing me in a room. Whenever I’ve had a pet emergency after hours that require a vet hospital, like blue pearl, I’ll have a staff member, typically Rebecca, calling me asking me if everything is okay afterwards. That level of sincerity is a rarity. With a heavy heart, our family has moved to a different area but we will always treasure the experience we’ve had at CAH. We’ve had so many services there, check ups, biopsies, neutering, reproductive services, non-emergency visits. They’ve been so key on making me understand everything and emailing and updating me. Thank you CAH from the bottom of our hearts! We (Tom, Jerry, Jax) as well as humans love you!
