How to Save Money at Veterinary Healing Arts

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I took my Dog Athena to Dr Rimar because she had chronic diarrhea , critically low albumin levels had lost over 30 lbs in the past year. I’d taken Athena to multiple vets including internal medicine clinic and nothing was working I was ready to see Athena across the rainbow bridge when a good friend of mine told me to try a holistic veterinarian i by chance google for one close to where I live and that’s how I found Healing Arts. It has been a little over 3 weeks and Athena has made a complete turn around her stools are formed she’s gaining weight she is playful again I will find out about her lab values soon but I have a hunch they are definitely improving. When I mentioned to Dr Rimar I was preparing for the rainbow bridge she looked me square in the eye and said “not yet!” She said she was going to figure this puzzle out and the treatments and recommendation for a congee diet looks like it has saved her! It’s early in her recovery but Athena has made leaps and bounds already. God bless all the staff at healing arts and a special thanks to the Dr in charge you are amazing!!

Dr. Rimar and her staff are wonderful. My dog Dakota has been a patient there since March as we had just completed radiation therapy at a traditional vet for a nasal tumor. Dr. Rimar has been treating her with acupuncture, Tui Na, and a variety of eastern meds. I am happy to report Dakota is doing wonderful, and has more energy than I ever remember her having before treatment. She is breathing much more comfortably and seems to be a very happy dog. Thank you!

Dr Rimar helped our dog go from being partially paralyzed from her hips down to back to running around and being a happy dog. Her and all of the staff are extremely knowledgeable and caring. I highly recommend bringing your pet there.

I cannot recommend Dr. Rimar and her fabulous staff enough! Dr. Rimar is very talented, knowledgable, and compassionate. Her entire staff is very welcoming and caring as well. They truly love every animal that comes through their front door. My first experience at Veterinary Healing Arts was with our 13 year old dog diagnosed with cancer. Dr. Rimar saw immediately how she could improve his quality of life, and gave us another HAPPY year and a half with him. Without Dr. Rimar's continued care, knowledge, and love he would not have made it another few months. Dr. Rimar was also just as supportive and understanding with my family, even when we were confused on what felt like the right path to take for our boy. We cannot thank Dr. Rimar enough for the amazing year and a half with our boy and quality of life that he had. She loved him like he was her own. Since Dr. Rimar was able to help our boy so much, our family has had her see our other dogs as well for numerous medical issues. From skin issues, arthritis, autoimmune disease, and even just to work on our new puppy, Dr. Rimar has been fantastic! All of our dogs come in so happy and know their routine. They love getting hugs and cookies from the technicians. Dr. Rimar has improved every single one of our dogs quality of life, and taught our family so much. Dr. Rimar and her staff truly care about their clients, and we cannot thank her enough for her continued guidance and care for our dogs and family.
