How to Save Money at Melbourne Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

SO MANY SHELLS !!!!!

These people truly care and work with people who aren’t rich and like all these other vets that try to get you on their “ Plan” that ends up requiring you to get credit to pay for your animals health. They treated my amazing cocker spaniel with Adequine and other medication that gave me years more time with my Shakespeare. Today was his final day and they were all so amazing. We called and canceled half a dozen times not wanting to see him go and trying to keep him pain free. Ultimately he was just in too much pain and collapsing. Only with medication would he have a brief reprieve and hours later pain. Couldn’t overdose him. I was a vet tech and have euthanized many animals never pleasant. They made it the best possible for him. He had lots of goodies and was unaware Sedation then when your ready a peaceful end. As sad and a wreck I am I know I did the right thing and appreciate everyone that works and has helped give Shakespeare the best life til the end. Thank you all.

Honestly I can't say enough good things about this place. We've been here twice and both times we were in and out super fast and the staff were all super friendly, knowledgeable and down to earth! Their prices are also incredible compared to all other facilities in the Brevards area that I have found!

I have been taking my dogs here for over 20 years, they are fantastic! I appreciate the care and concern that Dr Berger and his staff shows to my beloved pups! 🐶

Do not under any circumstances bring any animal to this facility. They will charge you for anything and everything under the sun without your approval then expect you to pay weather you were told about the care or not. I expressed to them that I did not approve any of the work... because if I knew the amount I would have said no. All I did was bring in a hurt cat to get the microchip scanned because clearly it was a house cat. Instead, they performed care on the cat in the extent of $800+ dollars which I was not paying for, nor did I ask for them to care for the cat because again it was not my cat. The minute management found out that i had an issue with them performing care without the client's approval they shut down my account and tell me I am no longer welcome there even though I have been bringing my dogs for years prior. They did not care. All of this would have been avoided if they simply scanned for the microchip and did their job like I asked for. Manager is very rude, disrespectful and degrading. This place has gone down hill

I can’t say enough, the staff and veterinarian Dr. Wexler? are amazing! They cared for my grand cat Sparrow like he was one of their own. I am so grateful for their care and know that my kids will have a support team behind their fur baby. Thank you!!!
