How to Save Money at Animal Medical Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We have been bringing all of our kitties here for years; we have three! Dr Young is amazing! He is so patient, caring and knowledgeable. KitKat is getting older, and Dr Young always takes the time to discuss the best treatment plan for us! Love this place ❤️

I'm so thankful for Dr. Long and the staff at Animal Medical Clinic. I called early on a Tuesday morning (2/28/23) expressing concerns I had about my 16 year old Yellow Labrador. After a couple of assessment questions, I was instructed to bring her in right away. I knew in my heart that the news would not be good. After examining my Jenny, Dr. Long had assessed there was the possibility of a ruptured spleen. He offered several tests as an option, but I knew in my heart it was time to let her go. I was a mess. They were all so gracious with me as I wept over my Jenny, giving me ample time to grieve my loss in the examining room. They even brought blankets in so I could lie next to her, hold her, and say goodbye. I chose to have a private cremation so I could have her ashes with me. The turnaround time was fast, and she was back home within the week. I was pleasantly surprised to find they had done a cast of her paw 🐾 The packaging, the box, and the card were all so beautiful and touching. I'm so happy to have her home with me forever. My only regret is that Dr. Long stated Jenny was in pain, and he would sedate her before bringing her back to the exam room. I had asked him not to sedate her before I could see her again. He explained he was not putting her down, just sedating her. My deepest regret is the last time I saw her awake and alert she was being wheeled into the back. I could see that she was looking around for me. The next time I saw her she was sedated, I couldn't see her eyes and I don't know for sure she knew I was there. I wish I had done a Verte job of advocating for myself and Jenny. Other than that, they made an extremely painful experience as comforting as it could be. I would highly recommend Animal Medical Clinic.

I absolutely love everything about this clinic. All are friendly, caring and compassionate. My precious Ziggy got lymphoma, and Dr. Young has not only treated Ziggy but me as well. If you are looking for a new vet, you have found it!!

I have taken multiple pets to AMC and seen multiple different doctors and each time I have a good experience. They don't do testing that isn't truly needed and therefore my bill is always reasonable compared to other clinics I have been to who want to do every test possible. Some of the meds or products are marked up a little or a lot, but they will price match if you ask and find it cheaper elsewhere like on chewy. I have never had a long wait in the waiting room at AMC. When I brought in a cat that was difficult to handle, they took the time to listen to me about the best way to handle her and everything went smoothly! I have been turned away by other vets who couldn't figure out a way to handle her or didn't listen to my advice about it. 4 stars instead of 5 because sometimes there is a receptionist who is kinda rude and difficult to deal with which greatly affects the care of the pet sometimes. But this is probably just one person in the office. It's something that could be and should be addressed as receptions are the face of the business. Certain vets have limited hours which can make scheduling difficult but you can be seen by a different vet if need be. There have been times where they have been able to squeeze me in same day (sometimes urgent care fee, sometimes not) and that is always appreciated! They have some evening and Saturday hours which is nice. They also have a clinic in Indialantic which shares records with this clinic. Sometimes one clinic will have openings if the other one doesn't, then you can get your pet in sooner. I will keep taking my pets here!
