How to Save Money at Tender Hearts Animal Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

DON'T GO HERE IF YOU CARE FOR YOUR PET! This place has to be one of the worst places to go to I made an appointment for my cat to be euthanized at 11am to be seen it took them an hour and a half to get me in a room and another 30 minutes for someone to come in just for them to come in and tell me what I know about my cat is invalid when I have had him for 15 years he was telling me it was his time by his language to me. He had a great and wonderful life and was the prince charming of cats. But anyways these people showed him no respect and was using a popsicle stick to poke at his swollen gums with no care and scraped some snot off his nose with the same exact utensil while this cat can't do anything to defend itself he couldn't even walk!! Then when they finally agreed we can put him to sleep the guy came in acting like he was a disease and didn't want him to touch him even after he was gone they had me pick him up and move his lifeless body to the box I had for him and that was more traumatizing then me having to end the best friend I've had since 9th grade even while writing this I can't help but burst into tears.they have traumatized me on a moment that should of been handled with more care please never go here they really show no sympathy for you or you pet !!! I am filled with regret for going here. Also I didn't get out of there til after 2:30pm

STAY AWAY!!!! Not in it for the animals welfare just in it for the money. The techs will tell you one thing but the Vet will see dollar signs and tell you something else entirely. There are a LOT better vet offices to go to. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this place. I would give our example except it would take up a couple of pages. Just take our advice and skim past this to a better place. YOUR FUR BABY WILL THANK YOU AND YOU JUST MIGHT SAVE ITS LIFE!!! We lost ours. RIP 7/14/23. 5 years old.

Tender Hearts has a very welcoming and friendly staff. They have been extremely helpful with working out a payment plan with me when I rescued an unplanned puppy. The team donated a collar, leash, bed, dog bowl, mat & a couple of toys since I was unprepared financially for the new addition to my family. They also have helped me prioritize what treatments needed to happen and when to help reduce cost on visits. Everyone is always very happy to see us come in and see the progress Momo and I have made together. Thank you Tender Hearts! A very fitting name! ❤️

If I could give this animal hospital more than 5 stars, I would! I live 6 hours away and my dog was experiencing a medical emergency. After reading countless reviews, I decided to call Tender Hearts. I was able to get in 45 minutes later and they did not keep me waiting in a room for hours unattended. Everyone at this clinic was very nice and very helpful. The vet told me a lot about what was going on with my pet based on a simple urinalysis test and what I needed to get done in the future, way more than any vet has told me back at home after spending hundreds of dollars. Plus, I found this place to be reasonably priced. If I experience a pet emergency again while I'm in town or move to the area in the future, this will definitely be the main choice for all of my pet care needs.

The actual vet is great, but as far as the staff that she hires- this is where the review has the accurate rating. They have double charged, and charged for things that we have not received multiple times. The latest (crime) that they did was make an unauthorized charge on my card without any approval. They had another dog under my name that had an outstanding balance. When the person with this said dog came in for their follow up appointment, they did not mention any outstanding balance, and instead, charged MY card after they left for almost $200. When confronted about the situation, they advised that there was an outstanding balance. I get it, payment for a procedure should be paid for, but that was not the correct way to go about it. It was charged under a completely different account, with a completely different card. Had they communicated, it would have been resolved right then and there. This is pretty much where we are drawing the line in the sand with this office. Sad to leave the vet, because as mentioned above, she is awesome. But her other staff is not worth putting up with anymore at this point.
