How to Save Money at Osceola Animal Emergency

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They saved my dog’s life to the best of their ability. Went way above and beyond what most would have and the knowledge brought to the table was invaluable. Immediately got her in for a bowel blockage surgery and was one of the rare vets with the knowledge to know what he was seeing and how to start fighting back fast to give her a chance. Showed more emotions and caring than most human doctors. Went to bat getting lab results back quicker, researched and found studies and a team for her to try to fight this hopeless death sentence. The team really truly cares for animals and does everything they can and I can know this even weeks later because they’re staying up to date her healthcare even now weeks later when she’s not under their care anymore and isn’t our primary vet. God is truly guiding this team’s hands here. If they don’t or can’t help your pet it definitely would not be from lack of trying and wanting or lack of knowledge. If you haven’t heard of Pythiosis or Swamp Cancer look it up for you and your pet- just the knowledge can save lives.

We took our little 5 year old cat Gandalf in because of a urinary blockage. Unfortunately we were unable to save him and had to put him to sleep. All of the staff there were incredibly helpful and sympathetic during the process. I can't thank them enough for at least trying when another clinic we had gone to prior would not. He will be missed terribly. Thank you

Great medical care, peace of mind. I cried so much and they were all so understanding and so loving. Thank you so much for the service and for being so awesome with our puppy.

UNSAFE. Would highly recommend finding another emergency vet if at all possible. Does not meet standards of care and clearly looking to bill for as much as possible. I brought my dog here for persistent vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite, and labored breathing; I had concerns about an allergic reaction. We called ahead of time to make sure she could be seen, there was no sense of urgency when we arrived. Paid close to $400 for Dr. Hector Diaz to "evaluate" my dog for less than 30 seconds and run labs. He trivialized my concerns and the status of my dog. Their labs showed my dog was moderately - severely dehydrated (per the second emergency vet we had to see), when he stated it was mild, and gave her a small amount of fluids under the skin. I was then charged another almost $400 for several medications my dog didn't actually need. When I asked the tech why they wanted her to take two antibiotics, she gave me an absolutely baseless explanation. Tried to tell me one of the medications was a probiotic, which it is not. Overall, suggests to me they rely on owners having zero medical knowledge; however, I am not a veterinarian and put my trust in these people. They told me to follow up in 1 week if she did not improve. My dog's status quickly deteriorated as the day progressed, leading us to another emergency vet. Turns out my dog had acute hemorrhagic diarrhea syndrome with a functional bowel obstruction, requiring a 36 hour stay with IV fluids, other medications, and close monitoring. They told me at triage her abdomen was very tense and painful, which he would've known had he given her a thorough exam. My dog would have died if I followed this place's advice.

THEY SAVED MY BABY GIRL! ❤️ My baby was feeling very sick. It was a SUNDAY! and I took her to this emergency room. They took her really fast, I had to wait less than 30 min without an appointment and the staff was super nice. They said to me that they had to operate her from emergency because she had an uterus infection and it was critical. I left her for the operation and she stayed the night there for observation. The next day we had to pick her up and the nurses explained everything to me. They gave me her treatment, medications and all the suggestions for the good care of my girl. I even took her for after surgery control, and they were ALWAYS super nice and kind, they wanted the well-being of my dog. I’m not gonna lie, it was not cheap. But for that surgery, it was the right price (because for any emergency like that, the price is going to be the same) and my dog totally worth it. Now she’s feeling super good! She is stronger and getting better. I’ll never have enough words to thank them for everything they did. Thank you so much!!!
