How to Save Money at Double A Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Great vet despite being very busy. Their staff do not hesitate to answer questions and educate you on how to treat a potential issue before coming into the office, all free of charge. This has saved us tons of money compared to our previous vet who would always want a visit for the most minor of issues and prescribe hundreds of dollars of medications and treatments before confirming what the issue was. Cannot recommend this place enough.

I would NEVER recommend this place at all I took my cat Peanut here for years and it was ok because he was healthy but once your cat gets older and sick they don’t care so if you want the best care for your pet no matter what the age or condition of the animal and you want your pet to be seen by people that have compassion for any living being this is not the place to take your pet, all they will keep saying is to come and get blood work and tell you the same thing over and over again and to top it off I had to put my cat to sleep afew days ago and I called and left a voicemail to let them know peanut had to be put to sleep and thank you for everything even though I know they were just brushing him off and upping his dosage to keep me quiet. It was like my cat was never a patient there. I am not angry that I had to put my cat to sleep. I am angry that they were not honest and told me that he was suffering and needed to put sleep because he was in pain the whole time, but they wanted to make sure he was alive so they can keep giving him medicine so they can keep making money. Extremely heartless and like I said if you love your pet stay away from this place!!!!!! Shame on you double a vet! What goes around comes right back around… Remember that ;)

Called to see if they could represent me for cat adoption. Asked why I wanted to pick them, I said because it’s local and they had great reviews. Lady on phone was very rude and was snarky in her responses saying they won’t allow it because I don’t know anyone that goes there right now. How are people supposed to reach out and help if they are not willing to talk to someone and set up a meeting or give the person a chance? Not sure who spoke with me but the way she was on the phone, she should be fired

Annual wellness visits have to be booked 5--6 months in advance and they simply don't do visits about specific issues, you have to call the morning of the day you've decided you would like an appointment and see if they can sneak you in, depending on the specific issue at hand, and MAYBE they can update your dog's vaccines while you're there for your super secret not scheduled specific issue appointment, but also maybe not, can't plan that in advance so you just have to find out when you get there. But also this week is SUPER super booked so maybe don't try this until next week when it slows down and there will be more availability for non-scheduled visits. I got this same song from two different people a month apart. I guess the care is REALLY REALLY GOOD here since they're so popular that you can only access them by early morning phone system sneak attack.

Very attentive to my dog's needs; my dog has his own personal vet but let say the doctor ain't in on that day for any reason another doctor will cover my dog's needs without missing a beat, sometimes there's no need for the doctor cause the front desk staff are so knowledgeable!
