How to Save Money at Spot On Veterinary Hospital & Hotel - Stamford

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was an intern at Spot On and extremely enjoyed my time there. All of the staff was very nice and welcoming. The dogs and animals were great too, and I loved working with them. I learned so much from the expertise and will carry all that I learned into my future employments.

This is a long review, but Spot On deserves to have the word spread, even more, so please read… I can’t say enough about how AMAZING Spot On is. We recently had to make the heartbreaking decision to have one of our pups put to sleep and ALL of the staff was so compassionate and caring through the whole process. A private room, as much time as we needed to spend with our little Lulu before and after, the most gentle explanations and understanding as we sobbed and sobbed. They even reached out to check on us in the following days. The company they work with for the private cremation was equally as thoughtful and surprised us with a paw print of our fur baby. NOW, for our other two pups who are still here, they have seen and treated them both and are always available for a quick call, always try and get us right in if something is urgent and stay in touch about appointments, vaccinations, medications, etc. Big or small, they can handle it all and do it with such care, everyone there truly loves animals and cares for them as if they are their own. IT’S SO CLEAN TOO! We primarily see Dr. Pickerstein and we love him. But I’ve heard EVERYONE is great. The Owner always seems to be there as he is also one of the Docs and he always says hi and comes over to see the pups. If you’re looking for a new Veterinarian, seriously, look no further. They even have a pet hotel too that I’ve heard is GREAT! Thank you Spot On for being there for us when we’ve needed you most and for caring for our pups!

Very nice facility. Outside of that I had two major issues with Spot On. 1) This place is ABSURDLY expensive. Everything has a big premium added to it and they try to upsell you at every turn. 2) they don’t let the dogs play. If your dog likes to interact during play groups or day care, they will spray the dog with water the second the dog starts engaging friendly with another dog. Eventually they’ll just take your dog out of play group and have them sit out. If you’re dog is a senior or not very active at all then perhaps this works but my dog is a young puppy who likes to run around and that isn’t allowed here.

Would never get my dogs groomed here again! First of all— they both had some matting and the groomers corresponded through text asking for permission to shave their butts and underbellies— fine. They came back completely shaved, to the point where I can see patchy skin and toes! Second- this place is highway robbery. They told us on the phone that the dogs require flu vaccines and fecal tests and we asked for quotes and the woman gave a rough estimate but omitted all of the doctor fees, the lab fee, they even required an “exam” by their vet as it is allegedly protocol with the vaccine despite having just had their annual physicals at their own vet. A $200 grooming turned into $600!! We asked if they can adjust some of the bill for the information that was never relayed to us- nope. To say I’m irate is an understatement. My poor dogs will be wearing sweaters in the house now.
