How to Save Money at Pueblo Animal Urgent Care

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Took my small dog because she seemed to be irritated by her eye on a Saturday when we couldn’t see her normal vet. We were seen quickly and they were able to evaluate her with some tests and gave us treatment to take home. They explained the treatment plan thoroughly. I was very happy with their professionalism and their kindness to myself and my dog. I was also surprised by how comparable in price it was to my normal vet appointments. Hopefully I’ll never need to see them again, but if an urgent situation occurs on a weekend or late evening, I’ll definitely go to them before making the drive to Colorado Springs.

We just took our dog there today. A vet tech took a look at our dog and stated that they really could not do much more than clean up the tumor that we discovered earlier. I really appreciate that they told us up front rather than clean it up and charge us a few hundred dollars. If we are ever in the unfortunate position to need emergency vet care again, we wouldn't hesitate going back.

I took my Bichon who has been bleeding out of his nostril and having trouble breathing on Saturday, to the emergency room. Before I took him I googled all the reasons why he would bleed. The internet advised I take him in. I’m a single mom on a fixed income. They told me to bring him in. So when I got there we had to wait outside in our vehicle until it was our turn. So I waited, they had me fill out papers and take my credit card payment 150.00. So then they come get my baby take him to the back and bring me a 1600.00 estimate for blood work to tell me exactly what could be wrong it was a 150.00 for them to tell me everything the internet said what it might be. The 1600.00 was for blood work then it was going to be 4000.00 -10,000 for the treatment. I told them I couldn’t afford that but I wanted to talk to the veterinarian Ito see what she had to say and the rude , hateful vet tech said to sign this paper that I was declining services! In fact she demanding it. I was so annoyed I told her I would sign it after I talked to the veterinarian. So I go talk to her and asked her what exactly did she do to examine him for the 150.00 , she claimed she couldn’t really examine him because he wouldn’t let her he kept moving. Which I wondered well why didn’t you have me help you. I told her I couldn’t afford the estimate. She just kept saying yeah well these techs practically work for free, we have to pay the lights. I was shocked at her insensitivity . I didn’t want free medical services but I could of read that on the internet for free . I don’t even think she looked up his nose or anything . I love my baby so much and I felt so sad that this team of staff were inconsiderate, money hungry, and didn’t do anything to make me or my dog feel hopeful . They were ugly with their personalities, greedy and insensitive! So unless your rich donate your time . I’d rather lose a human than my baby I’m so upset

After calling no less than five vets in the Pueblo area and being refused by all of them, we took our sick cat to PAUC. They treated my cat promptly and she is recovering well. Priority, customer care, patient care, cost were 5 star.

This place has gotten some bad reviews, but that was not my experience.my dog had a doughnut shaped bone wedged between her bottom canine teeth and bottom of her jaw. She was in quite a bit of pain from the rubbing on her gums. The staff was extremely friendly and the vet/doc kept me updated on what was going on. I am very happy with their service and appreciate it
