How to Save Money at Aggie Vet and Farrier Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot say enough about how amazing Dr. Brian is! I absolutely love how kind and loving his approach is when he’s working with my horses in either a vet or farrier state of mind. He is always willing to go as slow and easy as my horse wishes and never pushes them to the point where they are worried and scared. He is extremely patient and always kind and gentle. For me, this has been something I’ve always looked for in a vet and farrier but never had such luck....until I found Dr. Brian! Brian is always willing to answer my slew of questions on both the vet and farrier side, and let me tell you, I come prepared with lists of questions written down so I don’t forget them. He draws pictures and sits down and explains everything with me until it makes sense. One of my other biggest concerns while looking for a vet was to find someone who would take more of conservative approach and almost natural approach since my horses are extremely sensitive to anything and everything. I was able to sense this about Dr. Brain from the beginning and he has since then continued to take this approach in every situation I call him for! I truly enjoy that he tries to take the least invasive approach and always takes my horses’ feelings into consideration for whatever treatment plan he is working on. Like I said, I cannot say enough about Dr. Brian in both vet and farrier services he is stellar and has met every expectation I’ve ever had! He is amazing and we are so fortunate to have found him!!!

I recommend Dr. Brian to all of my equine quarantine customers. I have trusted him with my own horses and have never been let down. He is honest, straight to the point and compassionate with the care of all my pets! He has a wicked sense of humor as well!! The only way you could get me to use another vet would be if Dr. Brian is on vacation!! He is the BEST!

I absolutely LOVE working with Brian. It is a huge benefit to have your vet and farrier all rolled into one. Brian is fantastic with feet, and as the foundation of your horse it is a great base to stand on. Brian's "bedside manner" is fantastic even when the patient isn't feeling 100% great. I highly recommend Brian for both vet and farrier services. You too can have a "varrier" ;)

Dr. Eitelman is a amazing vet, whose care is exceptional. We were not prior patients of Dr. Eitelman but when I called frantic about an injury to my goat, he quickly called me back and scheduled an appointment for the same day. Dr. Eitelman showed up in a timely manner and laid on the floor with our goat to help diagnose him. After X Rays we found out the worst, his injury would most likely not heal properly as the damage was to extensive. Our poor sweet boy would be in pain the rest of his life even with medical intervention. Dr. Eitelman gave us options but ultimately he suggested that euthanasia was the most humane things we could do for our sweet goat boy. Dr. E hugged me before he prepared his supplies, as I sobbed uncontrollably. He gave us time to say goodbye and gave him lots of sedatives so he wouldn't be moving around in pain. While we were waiting, he had already called and scheduled pick up for our goat so we wouldn't have to make that call ourselves. We held him in our arms while Dr. E administered the medicine and he quickly confirmed when he passed away. He sent me into the house while he and my husband continuing making arrangements. Dr. Eitelman isn't our normal vet but he sure as hell will be our goat vet in the future. He was compassionate and empathetic, which was exactly what we needed in that moment. Though the experience was traumatic Dr. E made it as easy as possible on us. For that I am eternally grateful. Thank you Dr. E for your amazing care of both humans and animals.

Dr . E is vet and farrier for both of my horses. He has developed a health care and hoof treatment plan for both horses that addresses their physical needs, mental/emotional state, and athletic goals. Over the last few months I’ve seen improvement in my horses overall condition. Dr. E is a great communicator. He takes the time to explain his approach and what he is doing. His calm personality helps keep the patient (and horse mom) calm. Merlin, India, and I are so very happy and grateful to have Dr. E as our vet and farrier.
