How to Save Money at Copper Gate Animal Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Words cannot describe how grateful I am for all the wonderful humans that work at this place! My poor chicken was so sick and after calling around to over 10 different veterinary offices, they got me in as fast as I could get there! They treated me and my chicken with so much respect and compassion! What an amazing experience all around!! Thank you so very much and Lenny thanks you too!

I scheduled an appointment for my Guinea pig and nobody even told me that doctor who actually works there is not going to be at the office. We were seeing by the substitute doctor who didn’t know anything about guinea pigs. They still charged us the full price for the exam and antibiotics even though they didn’t have a clue what was going on with my pet. They just sent me to SCU vet hospital to get checked over there and pay again for the exam and whatever needs to be done. Well, if they told me that doctor is going to be out, I would never scheduled an appointment in the first place. Now they charged me $150 and told me to go somewhere else and pay again!!! The worst clinic I’ve ever been to

This clinic is of a smaller practice, but it is well established and has good roots here in Loveland. It is the only clinic I take any of my animals to. The building needs a work up, much like a lot of the older businesses and homes in NoCo, but it is cozy and full of life. I took my Flemish Giant (Rabbit) in for a neuter and got extremely professional, responsive care from both the receptionist/tech and the vet. I only paid $280 for the procedure compared to the $700+ that CSU and other local practices were charging. I immediately set up profiles for my guinea pigs and snakes as soon as I had the opportunity. You’ll find a reasonable, human staff here and I hope you’ll also find a lifelong, trustworthy partner in animal care; Just like I did.

Very small clinic. The vet has been practicing for a very long time and sees a wide array of animals. Limited scheduling options as I'm pretty sure it's just the one vet. Good atmosphere, lots of informational brochures in the waiting area.

Can't speak highly enough of this vet clinic. Unfortunately had to put my bearded dragon down after a long 10 years with her and the entire staff were incredibly comforting during the decision process and encouraged my wife and I that we were doing the right thing. They also had options and prices ready to go to receive her ashes and her footprints on a stone. We hadn't really thought about that part so it was very helpful for the info to be available right then. They had a private room in the back with a couch where the process took place and they were all very kind to give my wife and I some space to process and grieve together. This was my first ever pet at 15/16 years old and she has been with me for 10 years. So this being my first pet death experience I'm so glad we decided to come to Copper Gate. It never once felt like a transaction, just a few people who are passionate about animals helping a couple walk through this process together. This is a memory that my wife and I will be able to share for forever and for that I can't thank the vets and staff at Copper Gate enough. Rest in Peace RVCA, The whole family misses you dearly.
