How to Save Money at BluePearl Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had been wanting to come and leave a review for a while but the whole situation surrounding putting down our beloved Yorkie and old baby of 17 years has been weighing heavily on me. Today I received a very nice card in the mail from the Blue Pearl team expressing their condolences for our loss. I thought that was really sweet and the experience in office was wonderful (because they are good at what they do, obviously the situation itself sucked). Everyone that I interacted with was very kind and well suited for the difficult job that they perform; a very thoughtful, patient and knowledgeable group of people. The company that they work with that does the actual cremations also did a very nice job. Attached are pictures of our dog's ashes when we got them back.

First off, the Office Staff was fantastic and understood how critical it was for my cat to be seen same day. Our Veterinary Technician and Specialist went beyond the call of duty in providing my cat with the utmost care and attention. It was a very scary situation involving high blood pressure affecting her eyes with an underlying problem of cancer. Our visit was well worth the emergency visit fee. I'm very grateful to Blue Pearl Veterinary Hospital.

Came in as an emergency visit. The staff we're very friendly, efficient, and compassionate. Dr. Arnold and Kelly were outstanding!. They patienly and compassionately walked me through the procedure, pros and cons and why it was important to have it done asap. Amd possible causes which help with m anxiety.

Our dog received wonderful care from Blue Pearl's oncology staff and caught a splenic mass before it spread, potentially giving us more years with our old boy. We had some initial concerns about cost transparency, which were just due to an accidental miscommunication (which I think was just a blip in the process that was likely far from the norm) and when I brought it up, they worked with us very effectively, compassionately, and creatively (!) to make sure our pup got the care he needed even with the headwinds of our financial situation. Though I hope your dog doesn't need emergency or specialist care, if it turns out they do, Blue Pearl will be on your side through it.

Since November of '23, our dog had one eye that she was always squinting and it was very watery. After taking her to the vet, they diagnosed her with pink eye and prescribed some ophthamologic drops. Come January, with the prescribed drops, her eye was still not getting any better. After continuing to give her drops without any progress of healing -we took her in again and they were able to see a corneal ulcer. A new medication was prescribed that made her eye worse than any of the prior drops. Our vet had told us that if wanted to pursue her eye issues further that we'd need to take her to a vet specializing in ophthamology. Not content to let our sweet girl suffer any longer, I reached out to BluePearl because they have a vet who specializes in ophthamology. I was fully expecting to not get an appointment for a month or two because ...well, a specialist... but, I was able to get her in that week. We met w/Dr. Arnold and his staff and she did in fact have a corneal ulcer but it was a stubborn one so they had to perform a debridement of her eye. No amount of drops that our regular vet gave us would resolve the issue. After the appointment, we were promptly scheduled a two week follow-up to check progress. At the follow-up, it was determined her eye was still ulcerated and she'd need a 2nd debridement done. I was heartbroken and incredibly skeptical b/c her healing from the 1st procedure was slow going and painful. I was assured by Dr. Arnold that what he was seeing in her eye was all very good and that he was 90% confident that she would not need another procedure. She recovered like a rockstar from that 2nd debridement. Night and day! Our girl is looking at us with both eyes wide open now. We are so grateful that we found BluePearl and Dr. Arnold. We were never made to wait for our appointments, all the staff were nothing but courteous and friendly, their communication was fantastic. I would absolutely recommend their services.
