How to Save Money at Hermosa Veterinary Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot thank the veterinarian enough for saving my pup Denver from parvo. They were incredibly skilled, knowledgeable, and caring throughout the entire treatment process. They were always available to answer my questions and provide updates on my dog's progress. Thanks to their expertise and dedication, my dog is now healthy and happy again. I am forever grateful for their outstanding care and would highly recommend them to anyone in need of vet services. Thanks from me and 🐾Denver🐾

We’ve fostered two dogs through Hermosa. This is a wonderful project of great necessity. Pretty much anyone who says otherwise isn’t willing to accept the realities of what it takes to run a clinic/rescue in north Denver with very little resources. They do great work and that’s all there is to it

My pup needed TPLO surgery and after calling around vets, they were the cheapest but just because they were the cheapest doesn't mean they didn't offer a great services! Dr Schneider did an amazing job with our pup! She's over 12 weeks out now and is doing great! Our pup is generally leary of people but warmed up quick to Dr Schneider. Would highly recommend Hermosa's.

This vet clinic is great! They take care of the animals they see/treat. The clinic is not close to me. However, my dog's comfort with staff is more important than proximity. When your puppy recognizes the vet's voice who spayed her and turns and runs to them, that shows how much the staff cared for her, and she knows it. Therefore, I trust them. Thank you, Hermosa Vet Clinic, for caring for the animals you treat and also for keeping the costs reasonable!!!

I’ve been a customer for over 10 years, when Dr. Kurth was in charge this place was fantastic, unfortunately it has considerably gone down hill since he retired. I brought in my young dog about 7 months ago and he was unfortunately prescribed the wrong medication for his condition, he has since passed away due to not receiving the appropriate medication and care for this condition. I also arrived 15 minutes early for my appointment, but was not seen until 30 minutes after my set time. The facility also had a strong smell of urine. While I was waiting in the waiting room the front desk worker was speaking to a gentleman about how to treat his dogs Parvo, keep in mind Parvo is extremely contagious and dangerous to all dogs, but especially younger ones, they had this man’s sick dog laying in the middle of the waiting room around everyone else’s pets, including mine. Every single vet has protocols for Parvo including isolation, but that was not the case at this vet. This is extremely careless and dangerous. My latest visit here which I regret going to after my last awful experience was about 2 months ago, I wanted to receive a general wellness exam on my adult dog, I was seen by Dr. Gulzow, this Dr. was extremely rude and condescending during my visit & he kept making rude comments about my dog and was extremely rough with him. He was easily the most unprofessional and disrespectful vet that I have seen. This experience was definitely the last straw as I have now switched practices to a much more professional and friendly veterinarian, I wish I had done this years ago. I would recommend you all do the same. It’s honestly such a shame because Hermosa used to be a hidden gem in Denver, but those days are now long gone.
