How to Save Money at Green Valley Ranch Pet Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Brought my dog here to get her annual exam and needed vaccines. Everything went well. We made an appointment ahead of time, didn’t wait too long and the doctor and nurse working were friendly and helpful.

Called with an urgent pet need. I was nervous to find new vets in the area, but the website seemed like a compassionate guy worked there. So glad I went with them 💓 & not major pet stores to try to save a buck. It probably would have been just as much, or more- for the care my kitty needed . Most important, they listened. They were compassionate & understanding of my kitty's needs. Agreed to do what Kitty needed & not everything kitty needs done, so Kitty could feel comfortable with healing. Sedation always is a hard choice for an owner, but I am glad we did- & not have Kitty be awake for that. Kitty is now healing nice & seems hyper & wants to rejoin everyone. They explained all after care plus paperwork for my ADHD brain, so it was clear even by the time we got home. I was relaxed knowing my kitty was in the best hands locally. I 💯 believe the vet/team wouldn't agree to sedation if they thought there was going to be an issue. For a girl who gets nervous who handles her pets, I am so fortunate & glad GVP is close by & I trust them. We know difficult situations with pets don't always have great outcomes, but I do know/feel they have compassion for the pets & owners. That goes a long way. Thank you for being there for us.:)

I made a wellness appt for my pup about 3-4 weeks in advance. The day before my appt, I get a call from the clinic asking if I can come in sooner or later (which I didn’t mind) and we worked out a time. I arrived at my scheduled time, we were checked in and put in a room. After over 20 minutes of waiting, no one had come to see us. When I stepped out of the room to ask the front desk clerk if someone would come by, she was apologetic and said she would grab a nurse. The nurse came by minutes later and explained that they had someone call in and they were still tending to the 11 am appt (it was after 12:30 at the time). I had questions for the vet and she stated she’d go grab them to come by. Another 15 minutes go by and no one came to check on us. There was no one at the front desk, so I walked out and left very frustrated. I understand many places are understaffed, but they could have called to let patients know they were running behind, or offered to reschedule. Instead it looked like they were unorganized and not respectful of their patients time.

Saved my pups life…. I went to two other vets, they didn’t know what was wrong with him, I brought him here and they found a golfball sized tumor in his throat, and had it removed within hours of diagnosing it. My dog would have died in days if they didn’t find it. Most thorough vet ever…we are so thankful!

This place is awesome! I’ve been coming here for 3 years now and I’ve always had a great experience. I feel the prices are reasonable and the Vet is very transparent and accurate.
