How to Save Money at Powers Pet Surgical Services

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Daughters cat had a bad stomach injury that required a pretty major surgery they did fantastic job. And she seems to be on the mend. Not cheap but quality rarely is.

This is where many pet owners go to here in Colorado Springs because they need that emergency help when their original vet is closed and/ or just in an emergency situation where their love one needs surgery. I must say many staff here are amazing and their love for pets show while some show ...it's my job and let me do my job but anywho let me tell you why I gave 3 star rating. Well it is about how our emergency visit went. You wait for hours in the waiting room and just like us humans do not like being in pain. Our pets do not like it either because pain is pain and it hurts. Plus no one wants to see the ones they love suffer. Honestly. You know like everyone else know. People need you and you get busy. So why not hire more help so no one is suffering to be seen. Another thing the cost is a outrageous cost and many got to pay it to save their pet. My dogs first visit was $700 because he ate something that got stucked. Come back next day because they stated after 12 hours and it hasn't passed . We can try them doing things to flush it out. I agreed to hospital stay than it was no. Surgery or he will die at home in pain. I choose Surgery. Never knew we was going to pay around $5000 for x-rays, surgery and 2 medications. This broke my heart because what about people who don't have it or cannot get care credit. Truth be told. Their pet will die. I feel there should be better prices here especially knowing everyone needs you. So the flaws are long waits, some staff just there to make a buck and very expensive besides that....they saved my dogs life and some staff truly care and have animals themselves.

This is a wonderful place. Their staff is compassionate, knowledgeable, and very helpful. Yes you may spend hours waiting. Please remember your taken according to the need. Hopefully your precious pet will never be in need of emergency heart surgery. In the case that your pet could be, I'm sure you would want your pet to be put ahead of let's say, a dog that is scratching its ears. They are well staffed with Veterinarians that are trained in a multitude of specialized areas. They are open twenty four hours per day, seven days a week. They offer coffee, hot chocolate as well as I believe espresso and several types of healthy snack foods. It's meticulously clean, the exam rooms are very large and comfortable for what could be a long wait. Now let's talk cost!!! They are very reasonable for the services that they provide. Hopefully you will never need their expertise but in the event you could, know with confidence, your precious little being will be WELL cared for and you will be well informed. To good health for all living beings!

Very busy, but fair. More serious cases have precedence, but they keep checking your pet until a doctor is available. If you have a pet with an urgent problem, that's where to go. Very friendly and obviously love animals. All lab work is done on site so the answers are available quickly. And they look at everything, not just the obvious, such as underlying problems and conditions. Thanks guys.
