How to Save Money at Powers Pet Emergency & Specialty

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

My dog, my friend, Rocky, started acting strange and having problems breathing. I ended up taking him into Powers Pet Emergency early on a Sunday morning. The staff was fantastic and gave my dog immediate care and attention. When it was all said and done, Rocky took a turn for the worse and did not make it. It was heartbreaking and crushing. That being said, Dr. Driscoll and her staff did a wonderful job taking care of things and providing me with an opportunity to say goodbye to my dog before he passed. They did everything they could to make him comfortable and give me transparent guidance. Thank you...

If it could be zero stars I would give it in a heartbeat. My partner also left a review but I had worked in this field. I felt obligated to say something. We were there in total 3 hours, while we were there our dog vomited blood another 3-4 times. They did not seem to care. The tech that saw us first seemed uninterested. We sat for over an hour heard nothing. Then talked to the front desk whom blamed it on shift change. If they can’t smoothly do a shift change while emergency cases are coming in then maybe they should close for a couple hours while they figure it out. When they finally came to us they gave us an estimate which only had 3 things on it. I was baffled over almost an hour and a half to print that. Then they say they need vitals again I told them they already took them. She informed me they could not find them and would look for them. I am so baffled by this how can you loose vitals. No care for animals. If your dog is sick take them somewhere else. Definitely not 5Am during shift change. They don’t know what’s up or down during it. I have never seen such incompetence. They couldn’t even figure out how to do a shift change how can they take care of a pet?

10/10 recommend this place for emergency care. I have 4 dogs and unfortunately we have been here plenty of times. From super critical to urgent cases. Regardless my pet is always cared for The staff is really great at communicating about what’s going on with your pet. Recently, my pet had an overnight day due to an unknown cause. The doctors are really great about telling us what they believe is going on explaining why they wanted to keep them overnight and keeping us updated while he was there.. When we decided to take, we felt like it was no longer an emergency situation. Our pet was stable and we wanted to take him to monitor and follow up with our regular vet. And understanding where we were financially, and our thought process there was no pressure. There was no pressure to do anything we weren’t comfortable with. And I really appreciate that. I’m sure an emergency vet can be really stressful and these people don’t show it. They treat everyone with kindness that walk through their door. I absolutely love the fact that called my dog kiddo. Because I truly believe my dogs are my kids and I absolutely love that they cared for them as such! If you ever find yourself an emergency situation late at night don’t hesitate just go to this place. They offer different ways that you can pay.

This place is so amazing and helpful! They took care of both of my babies! I’m not sure exactly who helped us on Wednesday but it was Dr. Sloan and today it was Dr Carroll, Natalie checked us in at the front desk and Ursa was our vet tech! Everyone was so friendly, welcoming, and willing to help! Thank you so much for helping my babies feel better!

This is a review for the radioiodine therapy treatment that my hyperthyroid cat got through their specialty services. My cat was unable to tolerate the medication for her illness. This procedure was suggested instead. My cat is god awful and aggressive at the vets though, I wasn’t sure I could find a place that would take her. They agreed to treat her. Julie kindly sent me daily updates and wrangled my angry cat out for medication for the few days Radar stayed at the clinic. Thanks to them, my cat is cured of hyperthyroidism.
