How to Save Money at CatTails Feline Health Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We’ve been through many vets since we moved quite a bit and this is one of the best vets we have the pleasure of having our little ones go to. All their cat patient rooms have a box for your little ones to hide in if they are scared. There’s also a window for them to look out if it helps their anxiety at the vet. If that’s not enough, I’m sure you fur baby will be like my boy one where he made a spot to “hide”. The staff is really nice and they have a couple of cat residents roaming around that are friendly :).

This clinic is the best I have ever seen, we had a cat that was not eating and drinking and we were so scared and worried. They were able to fit us in and all of the staff were super kind. They constantly kept us updated and offered support. They provided various food samples for our cat because he was only eating certain ones and it was a huge help. I would for sure come back to this clinic if I ever needed help with my cat and I will recommend it to everyone. They do an amazing job at comforting and providing a friendly safe environment that has a calming effect. They also have some cats in the lobby that are so calm and lovable, which to me says a lot about the amazing calm safe environment and beautiful staff. Thank you for your help taking care of Simon, forever grateful for vets who take pride and love their job in a genuine way.

We moved here a year ago and we came for our cat's yearly visit. The staff and Dr. Reed were wonderful with her. She's not usually a skittish cat but even she was super at ease at CatTails. They even called us for a cancellation and got us in early which worked out great. Will definitely be coming to CatTails exclusively and would 100% recommend them.

I’ve had 4 cats come through Cattails and every single time they were treated with so much kindness and love. Cattails helped my cat after a bad dental surgery left him in pain and not healing properly and for that alone I’m eternally grateful. I have never seen a cat come out of the vet so calmly or purr so much while getting (lovingly) poked at. Everyone at Cattails is amazing. I sing those praises to everyone I know with a kitty cat!

I've been a client of CatTails for the last 3 years or so but my latest visit left a bad taste in my mouth. One of my cats is having persistent issues with her ears and she experienced negative side effects from the medication that was prescribed. I was advised to stop the treatment, but when I asked if there was a different medication to try, they failed to answer my question or follow up on her condition. Her ear yeast infection has come back and they expect me to pay for full exam ($80) to get her looked at again. I find that very unfair. There are other reasons why I'm ready to move on from CatTails. One of the staff seems like she's always in a bad mood, and it made me feel very uncomfortable. It is also very difficult to get an appointment with them because they're always booked so far out in advance.
