How to Save Money at Cheshire Cat Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I would like to know what kind of math Google uses to calculate overall star ratings because if you just take a minute and look through the reviews there are so many negative reviews, there is no way they should have 4. anything. My experience with this place was horrendous. Called ahead to see if my older cat could come in for anal glands only and was told no problem. He hates the vet and is impossible to treat without sedation that’s why I liked this place, they use a “gas” instead of full blown sedation. Dropped him off then get a call saying he needs vaccines in 30 days so they want to to do them. I said ABSOLUTELY not. Reason being is because the year before they gave him a nasal vaccine for feline respiratory that had him miserable for almost 3 weeks. The vet tech was rude and I told to forget it not do anything and that I would come pick him up. she literally told me she thought that it was too late that they had already given him the vaccines. I was livid. I showed up And the mentally unstable vet Tech had my cat in the carrier in one hand and his paperwork in the other because I asked to be able to pick up all of his previous medical records. I reached for the carrier and she jerked it back and then stuck the papers in my face, so I reached for them and she jerked them back. Then while smirking pointed out to me a letter, she had written about my cat being a vicious animal and told me that she had faxed it to all the vets within a 10 mile radius and good luck getting any other vet to treat him. she shoved the carrier at me so I took my cat and the papers and on the way out the door she followed me almost pressing up against me so at the door, I turned around and told her to back up and about that time the gray haired owner came out and the both of them physically shoved me out the front door while screaming at me. I called the police and waited for them. They kept coming out the front door yelling at me and harassing me and telling me to get off of their property. I told him I would leave as soon as I had spoken to the police. Are you kidding me?? Horrible, horrible humans and I see other reviews about the vet tech being aggressive, rude and “smirking”! I agree with the review that says there is some sort of undiagnosed mental health going on there. Run far far away from here if you love your pets! Found an amazing compassionate vet that makes these people look like idiots and I’m convinced they are abusive to cats that aren’t super easy.

If I could give zero stars I would. Terrible establishment, and terrible staff including the owner. I had a very severe complication happen to my cat during surgery at this clinic. Due to the lack of care, our cat had a medical emergency in which they denied was due to them, but we had confirmed with multiple scans at several other vet offices. These other vet offices advised me that they have heard multiple complaints regarding this establishment and have taken care of many pets after the failed care that this establishment claims they provide. Right after the botched surgery that was provided to my cat, we never received any sort of follow-up call from the “doctor” (owner). No check-in or concern for my pets post-surgical care or emergency. We never even received the results from this doctor. The rude and heartless tech at the front desk answering calls is the only person we spoke to. Eventually, we spoke with a different male “owner” who states that this doctor at this facility doesn’t do follow-up calls or call her clients. Really?! In what universe does this work for someone who is supposed to provide comprehensive, compassionate, and safe care to the pet and their families? I do NOT recommend this establishment to any family looking for care for their loved ones. I’m honestly surprised that this place hasn’t been shut down. I saw someone mention that the doctor might be retiring soon. I hope this is true for the sake of all of the pets in our community.

I have been a customer here for years and for most of that time the service has been good. Recently my cat had a medical emergency and I had to take her to the emergency room for hospitalization. I tried calling you set up a follow up appointment with Cheshire during their typical business hours and was not able to get ahold of anyone. I've called at least once per day trying to get ahold of someone so that I can transfer years of medical records to my new vet (someone who actually answers the phone) with no answer or call back. I've driven past their office hoping they were open with no luck. I wonder of they've gone out of business? No communication at all. My cat seems fine now but I have no way to get the medical records to see if she's deviated dramatically from any of her baseline rates. Luckily I know her prescription medicine names and doses. The last time I was able to talk to someone on June 7th, they filled a prescription for me with boxed medication that had expired 3 months before the date I called. If you are looking for a new vet: Do not take your cat here. If you are an existing customer and they ever answer the phone for you: demand they send you their records and establish care somewhere else. It's unacceptable to be completely unable to contact my pet's doctor for so much time with no warning.

Lovely staff but I've called 9 times in the last four weeks (I counted) and I haven't been able to get in touch with anyone. No ability to leave a voicemail - mailbox is full and no one is returning missed calls. I need to get my cat's records so we can go to another vet because Cheshire is basically defunct, and I think at this point I'll have to go to their office in person just to see if they're still open.

I've been to three veterinarians in the past year trying to deal with a ear nose and throat, upper respiratory infection that wouldn't go away. These guys figured it out the first time I took my cats to them. Now my cats are healthier and happier, and so am i.
