How to Save Money at Boulder Emergency Pet Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I had to bring my Service Dog here back in June as she was unable to work due to persistent vomiting (some of which had blood in it!), lethargy, and had stopped eating for days. My dog not being able to work is dangerous for my health–she is my lifeline and I need the absolute best care for her to feel her greatest! After going to a couple different clinics where I felt we were a bit brushed off, I decided to take her to Boulder Emergency Pet Clinic. We had to wait a bit after being triaged, understandably so, as they were dealing with a more emergent case, but the entire staff (receptionist, techs, and Dr) were so incredibly kind and apologetic! When we were finally seen, the doctor's focus was completely on us and I felt heard as I told her my dog's symptoms and my worries about her not being able to work. She came up with a plan and a few back up plans too before doing a blood test and ultrasound, all which thankfully came back normal. Though my dog's case was a bit of a medical mystery (as told to us by the other clinics) we received some fluids and were sent home with some prescribed food and meds to try while I monitored her as a plan B. Thankfully this worked! My dog was feeling well enough to return to her service work a week later. By helping my service dog's life and health, BEPC directly helped my own life and health and I could not be more thankful! Please do not hesitate to bring your pets here! You will be heard and taken care of! Thanks BEPC!

Huge shoutout to the Boulder Emergency Pet Clinic! Our puppy, Thyme, got her first Bot Fly larvae and we were without a resource in Estes park. We called ahead and they helped us with filling out the intake form electronically. The doctors were patient with our squirmy puppy and the staff were so sweet! Highly recommend.

My sweet mini-golden doodle came in for continual vomiting, coughing/gagging. She was diagnosed with pancreatitis and had to stay in the hospital for 2 days to get the treatment she needed. The entire process was smooth due to the extremely caring and professional staff. They were there 24/7 for any questions I had, I was fully informed of all charges, and everything was itemized and shown to me beforehand which made it less stressful. They also were so gentle and sweet with my dog, I knew she was in good hands. 10/10 would recommend this place and its staff for any emergency situation with your pet!

We are grateful to the kind folks at Boulder Emergency Vet Clinic. Recently we had to take our beloved family pet here. We were all understandably upset but the care they gave our sweet companion was incredible. We really appreciate the clear communication they gave us regarding the procedures. They were also extremely kind, compassionate and patient with my children and me. We will always be grateful to them for the care they gave our sweet dog and the empathy they showed us.

On Saturday, July 8th we hospitalized our little puppy for parvo. Boulder Emergency Pet Clinic provided as much help they could on the days they were open 24 hours before transferring us to their sister hospital (Northside) in Westminster. Our family didn’t have the money to pay up front, so they offered us Care Credit. We were limited to the amount of money we had on Care Credit, and their team was super mindful about our limit and trying to not go over it. I am super grateful for both Emergency Hospitals doing everything they could to help save my pup! I really recommend both places! I will be providing both before and after pictures of Peluchin! Thank you so much again.
