How to Save Money at Mission Viejo Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I love the people at Mission Viejo Vet !❤️! That’s probably why I have been taking all my fur babies there for over 20 years! Today I brought in a feral cat I caught and wanted to get neutered. Assistant Michelle and Dr Berry were extremely helpful and kind to help me with care for this animal. It brought me to tears. I APPRECIATE YOU PEOPLE SO MUCH, THANK YOU THANK YOU ❤️🐾

I don't know, I can't totally put my finger on it but this place is... strange. I took my two new kittens in for their first check up and the Veterinarian seemed intoxicated. It took her a VERY long time to get to any sort of point, and we often could not follow her line of speech. The kittens had worms and the Veterinarian talked for several minutes about her... dogs? Then she gave us PILLS to give the KITTENS at HOME which we immediately had a huge challenge with and wasted most of the doses, necessitating a trip back. We asked to see a different Veterinarian. The new Veterinarian was an older gentleman and seemed much more capable and stated right away he wasn't too sure why the first Veterinarian gave oral pills to kittens when it's much easier to give the liquid oral solution IN THE OFFICE (!!!). So, basically, we had all been through a good amount of stress trying to get nasty pills down 8 week kittens because that's what we were advised. And we paid for everything. The rooms feel dusty an unkempt, outdated. I tried not to let the kittens touch too much because I felt concerned about sanitation. The staff often seemed...off? Basic information (names, pets, contact numbers, appointment times, etc..) had to be repeated and clarified several times. It was just odd. Like someone's getting into the pet meds or something. Or they are simply not qualified. Or both. And I might be 100% wrong but this is the impression I get. I don't know but as a person who has cared for animals for several decades I just can't in good conscience take my animals there any more. I called and asked to have a copy of their records and the girl I spoke to was super flat on the phone but said she'd get them emailed. Almost 24 hours later and no email or anything. Luckily I have copies of the original paperwork and I'm just going to leave it at that and stay away from them because now I'm getting angry. I've read other reviews state that the original owners have long since sold this business and are no longer there. I can't help but feel like the majority of good reviews are on the coattails of the previous/original owners. This is NOT your friendly neighborhood Veterinarian Clinic. There are a handful of others close by that have better pricing, staff that are awake and can convey information clearly, more accurate current reviews and practice, with offices that are modern, clean, and safe for you and your animals.

They’ve taken wonderful care of all 3 of our dogs since 2020! None of them are afraid of the vet, in fact they all love everyone who works there! We moved pretty far away but still drive about an hour to bring them in because they’re so wonderful. Highly recommend!

Fantastic! Tonight was my dogs first appointment at this veterinary clinic. Because my dog is reactive to other dogs, Mission Viejo vet clinic worked with me to make a smooth transition, and made it the easiest vet visit I’ve ever had. They made me feel welcome and that I mattered. They listened to me. They cared. Above all, Bella absolutely loved the staff. After having a bad experience at a different clinic, I was very apprehensive trying a new clinic. I can tell you that I do not plan on leaving this vet clinic. Of course, the opinion of the patient matters the most, and Bella gives this clinic five paws!🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

In the eleven years I’ve had my dog, not once have I left a review for the vets he’s seen. But this office deserves everything good! I thank God we walked into this vet office! The kindness and professionalism shown to us by specifically Candy, Hailey & Carrie won’t ever be forgotten by us. After finding a lost puppy on a busy road, my sister & I visited 5 surrounding vet offices and NOT ONE would help us get him home. Until we walked into Mission Viejo vet hospital. We called ahead and spoke to Candy who relieved me of such distress by kindly welcoming us to bring in the lost puppy. Once we arrived we were met with beautiful smiling faces and wonderful helping hands. They checked for his chip and got immediately on the phone to contact the necessary people. They gave the puppy food that he ate immediately & were so gracious as to thank us for helping him. They assured us that they would do all they could to make sure he was reunited with his family. & that they did! Not even thirty minutes after we step foot into the office the puppies family arrives to come get him when they got the call. I’m so impressed and overly satisfied with my experience at mission viejo vet that I will be bringing my own dog here for his future needs. I look forward to visiting again with my dog and am so happy that Candy, Hailey & Carrie were the perfect help to get Pablo home to his family. Thank you so much. May God bless you all always ❤️
