How to Save Money at PetVet Vaccination Clinic

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The pet wellness centers are fantastic. Good veterinarians and you can walk in without an appointment which is very convenient. I’ve found them to be cheaper than my local vets for vaccinations as well.

Turned out to be a huge waste of time unfortunately we got turned away an hour before closing, after driving 25 minutes there with my poor kitties only because I believed this clinic was going to be a good option due to my family's busy schedule, but I was wrong. I feel so bad about my stressed cats! Please fix your hours to reflect when "walk ins are welcome"

Compassion and Genuinity. I feel these two words encompass the character of the staff working here. PetVet is not a full service veterinarian but is a low-cost option for dozens of many veterinarian services, not including emergency services. It is located in Windsor inside the Tractor Supply, all the way in the back next to the pet wash station. The vet on duty is volunteering their time to provide this professional and expert service at a much lower cost than a traditional full service vet hospital. For people who love their pets and are in need of low-cost, high-quality/care services, PetVet is the place to them in and around Sonoma County. They take their time to explain their diagnosis, and they treat you and your pets with kindness and respect. I paid a little over $350 for 3 cats to get an exam, antibiotics and 3 months of flea and tick medication for each. They did a full wellness exam and were meticulous in procedure. I will be back next week to get my cats chipped and fully vaccinated. Thank you PetVet!!

It was our first time to go (to the Windsor location because we always do mobile) yesterday and it was just to get a prescription for my dog since the vet on duty is the same doctor that vaccinated her and took her heartworm lab test and the staff and the vet were all amazing. They were very helpful and accommodating and genuinely concerned to get to know their patient. My dog is big and very barky and anxious but they made her feel at home and was able to do her test. They also did not charge me anything for this extra service. The vet that saw my dog (Mary Straub) has been the vet giving her vaccines as a puppy and she has always been great and welcoming to questions. Thank you to all the staff and Dr. Straub!

This was my first visit to take a newly adopted dog, Scout, for his initial shots and tests. The staff was welcoming and seemed genuinely interested in the animals brought to them and motivated to serve their needs and the customers interests. They're busy so you will have a wait, but I see that popularity as a testament to the quality of the service they provide. You don't need to hang around on-site; they'll take your number give you an estimated time before you're seen, and they will contact you when your pet is nearing his call in time, that way you can go off and do other things based on the timeframe. I'm happy to be a new client.
