How to Save Money at Mid Valley Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

This place is the best. I have been going to Dr. Pitt for over 20 years. And I always recommend him. (I should have frequent flyer miles lol) He is honest and listens to what you say and want. Recently I needed to say goodbye to my baby girl after 16 years and they never make you feel like your making the wrong decision 💔. Thanks Dr. Pitt and staff for always making life's hard decisions easier.

If I could give negative reviews I would. For the amount of money this place charges to "care" for your fur babies, you'd think they'd actually care and provide the level of care you'd hope for. Instead you get subpar results and an animal who ends up passing because they didn't check each every avenue possible instead they offer rechecks with other vets who will also charge an arm and a leg. If you love your pet, go anywhere else but here.

Firstly if you value your time go to another place. This vets office likes to schedule too many people that they can't handle. I had an appointment at 6 pm with them and waited almost 2 hours to be told they are closing, so i was forced to leave my cat there for a procedure to be done in the morning. I received my cat back from them, and went to a follow up 3 days later to learn that my cat has an abscess and for some reason they didn't see it when we first brought him in. We were forced to leave the cat there again, charged a significant amount of money. When we got our cat back again, he came home with fleas. This place preys on you, selling you expensive procedures that are uneeded and give mediocore care, with more issues being discovered upon followups. This place is fine for simple pet vaccines either than that..... If you value your money, pets, and time go to a different vets office.

Great and attentive personnel at the clinic always friendly and supportive. Doctor is amazing. Always knowing what should be done and prices are reasonable. Without overcharging as some other vets do. Highly recommend.

Took my cat here spent over 4,000 just to have my cat die in the car as we waited for our maybe 4th or 5th visit to them. So another vet could recheck him. They charged us for tests and professional care but never told us what was wrong with him. Kept perscribing antibiotics and steroids that weren't helping. He also ended up coming home with a very swollen infected paw after staying to receive "professional care" from them. They also charged me for medication to treat his swollen paw that he developed under their "professional care" The last visit the technician suggested we see a specialist or get a second opinion. That sounds just great after we gave you over 4,000. I asked them did they check him for parasites I assumed they had since parasites is a common thing and they charged me for blood tests x-rays and ultrasound I assumed they had already crossed parasites off the list of things to check. No they hadn't tested him for parasites though he was hospitalized twice and we spoke to 3 vets and they were just stumped and couldn't figure out his problem. I requested they check and sadly my baby died before the results came in. Turns out he tested positive for parasites. Parasites! A test done at my request! Not one vet we saw checked! We came to "professionals " and didn't think of that! This could've been fixed but see the test was only 85.00 theres no money in that, they had to do x-rays and ultrasounds the expensive stuff was the only answer.I wish I would've read the reviews my precious boy would still be here. I should've went to a different vet after his first visit I just expected them to care enough to help us, but no one cared. I had to watch my kids cry as they said goodbye to him and I'll forever carry the guilt for trusting this vet to help.
