How to Save Money at Eye Care for Animals - Tustin

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

From the moment we made the first phone call to stepping into their impeccably clean clinic, our experience with the vet service was incredibly pleasant and comforting. They were patient and gave us ample time to discuss our beloved cat's eye treatment. What impressed us was that they took the temperature in the ear, which made our cat very happy! We felt confident leaving our cat with them for the emergency surgery. Throughout the entire process, the doctor and tech assistants were attentive, answering all our questions and showing genuine care towards our furry family member. Even after bringing her home, they welcomed our calls and assured us that we could reach out anytime with any concerns. It's been three days since the surgery, and we are delighted to see how well her eye is healing. We also appreciate that they provided medications that didn't disturb her sleep during the night. Prior to discovering this vet service, we were informed at the ER that it might take up to three months to see an eye doctor. However, after contacting this clinic, they promptly accommodated us and scheduled the surgery for the very next morning. Thanks to their swift and efficient care, our cat's sight was saved. We highly recommend them for their exceptional service and expertise.

The star is for Vanessa who did her best with the training she has received. She showed kindness during my visit. I was referred to Eye Care for Animals in Tustin by my wonderful vet. I trusted they would send me to someone just as wonderful. Boy, was I wrong. I am not going to go into details about my experience but I will say that when it comes to the care of your sweet pet there are things that are important. Compassion matters, kindness matters, bedside manner matters, a clear understanding of your pet's diagnosis matters, follow up matters, knowledge matters, care and concern matters. I could go on and on. This office has a lot to work on. I left here knowing there was no way I was comfortable with Eye Care and Dr Brinkis providing care, especially surgery to my dog and a wonder of how they can possibly still be in business. There aren't a lot of pet ophthalmologists in the area but there are others. Your pet deserves better.

My dog had been dealing with eye issues for two years that was not getting better with his primary vet. I'm so glad I took him to Eye Care for Animals (finally). Every single team member that worked with us provided amazing care and attention to him. His eye cleared up within a couple of days of being on the new treatment regimen and he is feeling fantastic. I highly recommend!!

I cannot say enough good things about our experience with this vet office. The staff is knowledgeable and professional. Dr. Brinkus performed our dogs cataract surgery and not only did he speak with us personally after the surgery, but we received a follow up call the next morning in addition to his follow up appointments. I cannot recommend this office enough to anyone that needs specialized eye care for their pets.

The entire process at Eye Care for Animals Tustin was easy and welcoming. It was my first time coming there and the whole team from the office staff, vet tech and the doctors were so kind. They made my very shy and terrified cat Shrimp feel comfortable. She did so good during the exam and that was because of the care they showed. And most importantly they provided the diagnosis and medication that I needed to get her well again. I would recommend this place to anyone. They even had a sign outside with Shrimp’s name on it to welcome us. 💜 -Danae and Shrimp
