How to Save Money at South Temecula Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I was in need of a Vet Hosp as my current one was closed for the long holiday. They were able to squeeze me in. I have a cat that was in need. Dr Michelle Dejanovich was so incredibly nice, caring and knowledgeable. She had the best bedside manner I could relate to. She did not throw out major testing that would break the bank. She kept everything within my realm. I have faith in her assessment, diagnosis and medial plan for my kitty. The office worked with me within my timeframe as well. I am completely satisfied with my visit. And also on a flip side I brought along my kitties, brother from another mother and father. My (his) Parrot. I did not know they have an avian vet as well. The Dr came out to greet my little green feathered dragon. They were able to take him back and Do a Beak/Pedi. I am so very thrilled I found this place. Recently coming from the Palm Desert Valley. There is not one Avian Vet there. This was a blessing! 5💫 or A +. Come in an decide for yourself. They are worth it. They care about your babies and you. (not your babies that will steal the car😉)

So happy to have found this office! I needed a new vet office and was in a real pinch with the urgency of care I needed for my dog. The office staff was very friendly and caring. They fit me right in on a Saturday morning. The techs were efficient and knowledgeable and the vet herself was AWESOME! She took her time answering all my questions and really making sure we had a correct diagnosis and treatment plan. The pricing was fair and there was no push for anything unnecessary. Thanks a million!

We bring both of our pups here for all of their medical needs and they always do such a great job! They have been so accomodating with our pup Eros who has seizures by making sure to fit him in on short notice if needed and customizing his care to help keep him seizure free. We love all the staff here, and so do our pups!

I’d like to begin by saying that my dog has chronic allergies. Before we knew fully what the issue was we had taken her to a few vets before coming to this one. This clinic is extremely expensive though they were able to diagnose the issue. Recently I was told that in order to receive a prescription for my dogs medicine, she needed blood work as apart of an “up to date” check up. Blood work is typically $200-$300. This vet requires it YEARLY. If your dog has a chronic issue that requires a prescription, and you do not have the funds to pay for $300 blood work each year, I would suggest going to another vet who will allow you to decide whether your dog needs blood work. I find it despicable that they would not give me a prescription for the allergy medicine when the alternative is to have my dog suffer, when she had just been seen three months prior, and when the medicine they prescribed her greatly improved her quality of life. To hold “blood work” over my head when her medication already totals $2000 a year was just greedy. This clinic is great if you have money to burn, and the veterinary is qualified!
