How to Save Money at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

If I could give more then 5 stars I would. Dr. Weber and his team are truly under appreciated for all that they do. My poor Luna was hit by a car, and I tried taking her to 7 different animal hospitals, and they all turned me away because I didn’t have the full $1,000 dollars they wanted just to diagnose all that was wrong. But literally the second I took Luna here they immediately accepted her, considered her part of the family, and treated her right away. I literally started crying from being so thankful I found someone that cared more about helping a pet in pain then the money. Dr. Weber made me feel so comfortable and relieved about my kitty’s whole situation and I never doubted for a second that she was in the best hands she could be in. He cared, showed compassion, showed sympathy, made you understand everything that was going on and what needed to happen, and explored every option there was to help you pick the right choice. His wife Lindsay is just as great! She worked with me with the whole payment situation and didn’t turn me or my kitty away just because I didn’t have the full amount right away. And she sat there and talked with me and shared stories with me when they were already closed and most likely ready to go home, just to help me feel better after finding out about my kitty’s leg. And lastly their daughter is just as amazing as they are! You can’t help but be in a good mood when she’s around. You can just tell how big of a animal lover she is just from her energy alone. She was so great in reassuring me how safe my kitty will be, and was the best at keeping me updated on how she was doing before, during, and after her surgery, and even kept checking in with me after taking her home. I don’t think I have one negative thing I could say about this place, or these people. They are truly under appreciated and deserve A LOT more credit and praise then they get. I seriously keep trying to think about what I can possibly give them to show how thankful I am for them and what they have done for Luna and I, but I don’t think I could ever show them how truly amazing they are, and what they do, because they are simply THAT amazing. If you are taking your pet anywhere else then you’re making a huge mistake. Once you take your pet here you won’t trust a single other person with your pet. They found a forever customer with me, and I refuse to take Luna anywhere else besides here. They are by far the best in the business, and in life.

Dr Weber was recommended by a rescue & pet parent. At this moment I have an ill baby cat, (don't know what's wrong or how he got sick.) I called a lot of vets around my area in Riverside but no one would give me the time of day that also includes his own vet, and I was asking for handouts. Either way, I heard about this doctor in Santa Ana (a bit of a distance) but this doctor created a time slot for me & my baby. He spoke to us (cat & me) he held my baby, examined him and explained to me what his conclusions were. He showed me my boys X-rays and explained (not in a condescending manner but still in a language a 6 year old could understand) his findings and thoughts on the matter. This doctor took his time with us and helped us when no other Veterinarian would not even a vet I have recommended to others. Let's just say that my babies have a new doctor a bit of a ldrive on the 91 fwy but his service is excellent as well as his staff.

Dr. Weber and crew are nothing less than phenomenal. They care about your fur baby like if they were their own. Would never go anywhere else unless forced.

EXCELLENT VET!! THIS IS THE GUY!! IGNORE THE RIDICULOUS ONE STAR PJ REVIEW BELOW!! You know finding of that a Vet that can take care of your pets, someone that you can trust and rely on is not easy to do. I have been going to Dr Webber and Metropolitan Vet Hospital for 7 or 8 years now with three different pets, a dog and 3 cats and I just cannot say enough about how good this guy is! It’s annoying to see some disgruntled moron swing down and post a one star with a one sentence review and then run off and you have no way to respond to or challenge what they write. Take a look here at all of the five star review!. Go on Yelp and see even more, like 50 or 60 of them! Simple words on a Google page really can’t explain the experience, but the five star reviews, one after another, tell you that other people, other pet owners like yourself, have actually been to Dr Webers office, have actually had the experience of getting help from the doctor and his staff. They’re rating him AFTER they took their pet there! There is a good chance you might not have been to Metropolitan before and if so, let these other folks that have been guide you!

Dr. Weber is the best! He always takes care of my Cowboy. Not only is Dr. Weber great but his team/staff really helps a lot too! They deal with all the crazy animal lovers like myself and deserve 5 stars because they are always patient, kind, and loving. Eva always knows how to handle my handsome hunk since he doesn't get along with other dogs! I would highly recommend because of the team there and inexpensive prices. Thank you Metropolitan Vet!🐾💛🐶
