How to Save Money at Best Friends Animal Dentistry

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Dr Zacher and staff are awesome. I have 3 dogs and they all had their teeth cleaned over the last month with her. Adam was awesome texting me and keeping me informed throughout all their procedures. Since they do this all day every day I feel at ease leaving my dogs with them. They even sent pics during recovery. They took wonderful care of my dogs. They do have you complete a medical history form, submit medical records and sign an anesthesia consent form which is for best interest of your pet. Dr Zacher is so thorough she reads through the medical records your regular vet sends. She will in turn provide you and your vet the most thorough dental records with exrays and detailed information about how anesthesia went. Top notch doctor and staff. You can't ask for better care. Pics are Sparky and Zoe recovering with nurses. I couldn't find Joeys pic..lol

Our Boston Terrier has received excellent care here a couple times and is already scheduled for his next cleaning. They book far ahead, are wonderful in communication, very compassionate and professional. Dr. and staff are great and clearly love working there. I say this because it's not always the case and I want folks who love their job handling my fur baby. The photo is how they brought him back to the car. We got such a laugh. Animal Dentistry is a specialty, as such it is an investment. Their billing is very clear and they have come in under estimate both times.

This review is long overdue -- Dr. Zacher and her team are AMAZING. Highly recommend to anyone seeking top-notch veterinary dentistry. Dr. Zacher has exceptional expertise -- successfully performed a complex procedure on my high-risk, 17+ year old senior cat. I reached out to Dr. Zacher after another dental clinic rejected him due to the high risk and trusted her immediately. As expected, I was very nervous about the procedure but great communication from Dr. Zacher and the staff. Very grateful to Dr. Zacher and her team that my dear cat didn't have to suffer with major dental issues during his remaining years.

You will not find a more skilled or compassionate office if your dog needs their teeth worked on. Highly recommend. Remember taking care of your dog's teeth will add years to their lives.

I will not go to this business and I have much better choices out there. My appointment for my pup is on Feb.9th. They've been emailing, calling and texting to ask me to fill out a form. Today is Feb. 6 (3 days away from the appointment). I got the message today that they're cancelling my appointment because I haven't filled out a form (We've been waiting for the appointment for over a month). They think their business reviews are too good (only 17 good reviews awfully small data samples) and business is too good, so they can cancel the appointments however they want obviously without a care about the pups' dental health. I'm glad they did what they did. I would hate paying a business like this for anything. Update on the business' reply: I wasn't asked to fill out a form when I made the appointment. We also won't go with a doctor and do some procedure at the first appointment. We get multiple opinions and choose the right doctor. With the argumenal attitude from a business, I'm sure glad we didn't waste our time and effort.
