How to Save Money at At Home, At Rest Pet Euthanasia

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I can't say enough about Dr. Kuty and the end-of-life service that she provides. We live in San Jose which is within her service area. We were so lucky to be able to keep our dog calm and comfortable in our home as we said goodbye. Everything was done with full explanations and loving care. Our best girl passed peacefully across the rainbow bridge.

The people here are some of the most kindhearted and earnest people I have ever encountered in the pet world. About a year ago I had moved up to the Portland area, but recently I received a call about one of the feral/stray cats we used to TNR and care for in the neighborhood. He had been hit by a car, and his body was being held at the San Jose Animal Shelter. The thought of this poor animal's final resting place being a landfill was too much to bear. I was able to get a hold of At Home At Rest, and through the most complicated mess the San Jose Shelter could throw at us, At Home At Rest worked closely with me to pick up his body and make sure he could be treated with the care and respect he deserved. I can wholeheartedly say that these people care about you and your pets. Rest in Peace Grumpy, despite your poorly chosen name, you were a sweet cat, and I will forever miss you.

Through an immensely sad and difficult time, Dr. Kuty was absolutely wonderful. I wouldn't have changed a thing and I highly recommend her. Her staff is also very nice and understanding. They were very patient on the phone. Although they are not able to pick up every call since they're counseling others, they always got back to me within an hour or so. Excellent service all around!

If you are going through this , considering putting your precious pet companion down just know it will never be easy no matter what .I cant compare it to anything else but to loosing a family member and that’s exactly what it is . That being said I can’t imagine going through this experience without the assistance and support of kind , compassionate ,understanding and educated soul such as Dr. Kuty. She made the process so easy and was full of love and compassion and support and understanding throughout the whole process .Dr. Kuty and her support staff are all first class . She showed us and our beloved pet plenty of love and compassion from day one to few weeks later when she brought back the ashes of our beloved and now RIP forever freckles . We strongly recommend Dr. Kuty’s services for any family that needs help with eliminating suffering and pain for their beloved pet and help with easy and comfortable passing . I have no doubt that I will meet Freckles again at the rainbow 🌈 bridge . Thank you Dr. Kuty and staff.🙏🙏

My 14 yr old boy was getting too sick to care for and I promised him I'd never put him to rest in a vet's office. Dr. Kuty was so sweet and professional and directed us every step of the way. We had time to love on him and say goodbye between him going into a deep sleep and crossing the Rainbow Bridge. The process itself was beautiful amd comforting and I wouldnt change a thing. She clipped some tail fur for me to keep and asked me if he wanted to be cremated with anything so I wrapped him in his favorite blanket. After the transition was over I just held him like a swaddled baby and kissed him all over. Thank you Dr. Kuty
