How to Save Money at Animal Farm Pet Hospital

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The prices went up dramatically and it's really hard to get an appointment there. The staff is great Well I should say the support staff and vet techs are amazing. But the vets keep raising the prices to where I had to change vets!! I now go to Dr treat and although it's much further away from my house I offer virtual visits and a yearly subscription so that you don't have to pay for opposite visits every time and they have 24-hour support services that are free with yearly plan.

I've been going to Animal Farm since Dr. Stroah, the original owner. My cat, Butsu, a rescued cat since day 1, had a mean bite at the base of his tail from a fight. Animal Farm was able to get him in within 1 day to examine him. I warned them that Butsu is onery and hates strangers. So, I dread what he will do to the doctors,as last visit he bit the last vet. He's every Vets nightmare cat. Dr. Raj Gill aleaved all my fears. He calmly assured me not to worry, but heeded my advise at the same time. He and his crew masterfully were able to shave his tail, drain and clean the wound. He gave quite a few medications that were a challenge to administer, but he was percise and gave thourough instructions, which made it easier to give Butsu. I also want to give a shout out to Ariel for going above and beyond to help with situation. Also kudos to the assistance for being so brave. Butsu is healing very well, much quicker than I thought. I am so happy to be able to return to Animal Farm, with 3 other pets in the near future.I wish them much success with their new Pet Care Business.

They only have appointments 2 weeks in advance, but they can get you in the same day if you pay an "emergency" fee of $163. You never see the same vet, in the matter of a month and a half and three different appointment's I saw three different vets, with each following vet having know idea what the previous issues with the pet were. For your pets safety go elsewhere.

I started coming to this vet office back in 2021 and I never had any issue with their services or anything, but early this year when it came time to do a check up, I found out about the change in doctors and staff. The new doctors were great, but my main concern was that they seemed to have no record of my dog being there before despite him being neutered here, having all his vaccinations, and his first dental treatment here. I don’t know what happened in their transition that they just lost all his records, which I found concerning given that I don’t have copies of them myself. I also found it frustrating that they greatly reduced their hours and are no longer open on weekends when they used to be great at getting same day appointments. Now I can’t even request an appointment on the petlink app that I loved using. Nothing against the new or old doctors though, just convenience and reliability of this location has gone downhill for me.

The breeder we bought our puppy from recommended Animal Farm Pet Hospital because they are reasonably priced. Has been hectic at times but they always got the job done so no complaints until recently. We took our second dog in to get his vital shots redone. After the visit I payed with my Care Credit credit card and left with no issues. After about a month I noticed there was no charges to my card made. I got in contact with Care Credit and they told me to wait a bit longer to let it process. I recently called the vet to schedule another appointment and when they looked at my account on file they told me i had an overdue balance I needed to handle immediately. I asked for the details of the balance, assuming it was for the charge that had never gone through. She could only give me the date and dog (both were completely wrong.) and told me she couldn’t see beyond that. Never going back. Super weird that they took my credit card information, confirmed they charged me before I left, never contacted me if there was problems (no email, phone call, voicemail) and then didn’t have the correct information when they requested payment. Update: The manager emailed me the day after I posted this review. She sent my invoice that had the correct information. I called today, asked for the manager to charge my account to ensure there was no mixups. She sent my receipt after the phone call and asked me to update my review. I’m trying to be as unbiased as possible with the update. At the end of the day I kept getting told the same thing: “we keep getting new managers and employees so it got lost in the process.” If you’re really broke (like I am) this place is reasonably priced. If you have other options and can afford to pay slightly more, this place is not worth the chaos and frustration you’ll be left with. I’ve had rough experiences with them in the past but this one was the cherry on top.
