How to Save Money at Pet Hospital of North Park

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I have always had a good experience with this Vet Hospital, for one, they have never turned us away when we needed them asap and I have gone to over a half a dozen different Vets and Pets of North Park would always find the time or give me a solution to where I should go, and that is why they are my “Go To Vet” every time!! I’m grateful to their staff and how they treat myself and our houseful if pets! We have 1 cat and a Golden Retriever and 2 Labrador Retriever's, just an fyi. I won’t take them anywhere else, unless it’s suggested by them. Thank you for the care and love you’ve given my fur babies.

Lackluster care - all the techs and or assistants seem like they couldn't care less about their jobs or the pets they are attending to. The vet was very short in mannerisms, rough and quick with pet exam - no bedside manner to speak of and no compassion for pets or their owners. I only went here bc they work with a low income organization to help pet owners so that was beneficial, wouldn't have gone here otherwise.

I appreciate how many appointments this clinic has. I have 2 cats and they are always able to get my pets in, even day of. The techs and vets are always so kind and great at communicating. Prices have been reasonable as well. Thank you for taking good care of my babies.

This was our first trip to a vet ever. We "inherited" our neighbors cat she passed away because before she died she was only worried about the cat. We renamed him Felix and have had him for 2 years. We found his vet records and he last saw a vet 7 years ago so we thought it was time to get him checked out. We called PHNP and explained our situation. We got an appointment that day. We had a short wait until we got an exam room. The assistant came in promptly and was very professional and good with Felix. Got his weight and took medical history. We let him out of the carrier and he checked out the room. Then the vet came in and he did an external exam and checked heart rate. We talked about diet, weight, activity and any unusual activity. He initial assessment was that we had a healthy cat of 14 years. He did want to take blood and fecal samples for lab work. They were able to get the blood that day and gave us a container for us to obtain a fecal sample. We did so and got lab results one day later. The vet's assistant called us with the results, all good, then followed up with an email so we'd have a copy. So I give them 5 stars because I don't see how the visit and treatment could have been any better.

Front desk here is very rude and most of the staff gives off negative vibes. It doesn’t feel like they care for your pet or really animals in general. They are never happy or excited to see patients come in and they don’t do a good job of explaining or comforting. Definitely do not recommend.
