How to Save Money at Cheshire Cat Feline Health Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I cannot recommend Cheshire enough. They are absolutely wonderful. I fully trust them with my cat's lives. Both vets are absolutely excellent. The techs are super nice and incredibly kind to every cat. The front staff are friendly, kind, and have been very patient with my questions (as my 21 year old cat now needs special care). Our previous vet hit hard times during/after Covid and was missing important issues. I found this vet from reviews, and it was a total gamechanger. At first, before we were in regular rotation, we had to wait a bit for an appointment. That's just because they are an excellent clinic and regularly booked up because of it. As soon as we (our 4 cats) became regular clients, scheduling has never been a problem. I fully %100 trust both of the vets here and have been beyond grateful for their willingness to work with us and for their excellent care of our cats. We have four cats with varying needs (2 were feral/community cats brought inside when they were young, 1 cat is geriatric with ongoing renal disease, 1 cat has a natural tendency to gingivitis, 2 are a bonded pair that do better when seen together, etc, etc) and the vets/techs at Cheshire have always been willing to work with us and, more importantly, with our cats needs. I cannot recommend this wonderful place more. They really listen to your/your cats needs. They answer all my questions with clarity and patience. The steps/medications/supplements they've recommended have been great to absolutely life-changing (a monthly shot for my 21 year old has allowed her mobility to return with much less pain), and they are up front about different options for different budgets when we can't afford to do everything. When our eldest cat, T., had to visit the emergency vet on a Sunday, it wasn't until we got her in at Cheshire that they figured out the problem, and saved her life. Even though T. has a strong personality, they understand that and love her for it (instead of seeing her as 'difficult'), always being aware of her limits and scheduling/rescheduling treatments accordingly, instead of pushing her limits and further stressing her. These folks are kind, friendly, and incredibly good at their jobs. They will take the time to educate you and offer options according to your ability. They care about your cats and that's reflected in the work they do. I will always be grateful for them. Thank you, Cheshire!

I really couldn’t be more grateful for this cat clinic. I have two babies and my older girl is pretty spicy. All of the staff treat her with all the love and care she needs, even though she may be a little challenging sometimes. I’ve always felt like things were thoroughly explained to me, and I’ve never felt rushed along with my questions. I recommend this clinic to all of my friends who have felines. 10/10 recommend!

My poor girl suffered third-degree burns from her previous vet, and I was fortunate enough to be recommended to this place by another Cornish Rex owner. Dr. Young has been treating my cat with so much care and love. This vet has answered all my questions and has never rushed me. To say I’m grateful to the staff and Dr. Young is an understatement.

It's nice to not worry about your cat getting barked at. A better experience than the average pet hospital.

Dr. Middleton did an amazing job examining my cat. She’s warm, personable, and truly cares for your pet. The prices are fair too.
