How to Save Money at Integrative Pet Wellness Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

I am completely impressed with Dr. Chen and her entire staff! My mom always told me that balance is the key to life and that’s exactly what Integrative Pet Wellness strives for by looking at the total health of my furbaby! I love Dr. Chen’s passion and the positive energy in her clinic is palpable! I’m totally on board with holistic, regenerative medicine for myself, why wouldn’t I want to give my dog the same advantages?!! I want Rudy to live a long, healthy, pain-free life without pharmaceuticals and surgery and Dr. Chen is creating an individualized plan to do just that! I love all the options this practice offers. We already have a better understanding of Rudy’s pain through thermal imaging and he had immediate relief from acupuncture and laser therapy. We are so looking forward to implementing the right treatments, supplements and nutritional plan to give Rudy’s entire system balance for a healthier, longer life. Thank you Dr. Chen and her entire team!!!

I can't say enough wonderful things about Dr. Chen and her team! They've completely changed the way I think about veterinary medicine. We found Dr. Chen when my dog Jane was being treated for urinary crystals, her previous vet gave us big brand prescription food that I never really trusted but I felt like we had no other options so I went with it. After a while of using that food I wanted a second opinion so we reached out to Dr. Chen. I'm so glad that I did because we've been able to solve her urinary issues and improve her overall health with the right combination of fresh food and supplements! While it's led to more vet visits than our previous vet, it feels so much more of a proactive approach to my dog's health. The previous approach felt like putting a band aid on the problem, while Dr. Chen's approach feels like we're actually doing the work to solve the issue. Every member of the staff is incredibly kind and I also think every vet office should be like Interative Pet Wellness Center. My dog is not a fan of the vet, and while she is still nervous to go to the vet, I can help her so much more at Dr. Chen's. There is no 'waiting room' so you're not in a room with other owners and their dogs and the exam rooms have a living room feel to it. Aside from a lengthy drop-off procedure, I've never been away from my dog. I can't recommend them enough!!

Our 15 year old dog was suffering from several underlying health complications as well as a serious abcess wound that impacted her mobility, energy, and general quality of life. We were considering euthanasia but came across the Integrative Pet Wellness Center and contacted them as a last resort. After the first visit, we could see an improvement in her vitality and mobility, which was pretty amazing! The entire staff is so knowledgeable and communicative, and their progressive approach to treatment is both effective and compassionate.

Dr Chen and her staff are lovely! My 1 1/2 year old Doodle, Fergus, had been having various stomach related issues since we got him a year ago. Every single person we have met in the office treats him and us with the utmost respect and compassion. It’s a gift that we found her and have the pleasure of seeing her and the staff as they continue to care for him. We have made great progress with Fecal transplants and then the introduction of fresh veggies and protein under Dr Chen’s direction. We are so happy with his progress and it’s given us hope that he can live a happier, healthier life!

I'm so thankful to everyone at Integrative Pet Wellness Center! I first found them a few years ago when they were just a small team. Dr. Chen's approach to holistic wellness is unlike anyone we've encountered. She truly cares about all her patients. One example is when I messaged them frantically one night after my dog was hospitalized. Dr. Chen took the time to call me even after work hours. Over the years, she has cared for all 3 of my dogs with the most compassion & care. Unlike most vets who just prescribe mediations, she focusses on finding the root causes whether that is through nutrition, exercise, or additional testing. After we have ruled out everything, she then comes up with a plan. I truly believe she is the reason why my dogs have lived long, happy, and healthy lives. We have also seen Maria for senior enrichment. I am so thankful for her and her compassion for animals. A few years ago, I noticed my senior dog was slowly starting to lose interest in her usual routine. After speaking with Maria, she gave me ideas on how to enrich her life and advice on how to best support her. We started doing puzzles, sensory exercises, and massage. These small changes have really improved my senior dogs energy and comfort. As 1 of my senior dogs health started to decline last year, I was emotional and heartbroken. I can't tell you how many times I have cried during the appointments. Not only have the team of nurses comforted me, but they have cried with me and shared their stories of caring for their senior pets. The nurses here are fantastic. They are always gentle with my senior pups and give them so much affection to make sure they feel as comfortable as possible. Over the years, Dr. Chen's office has expanded and I'm so happy for them. Despite their busier schedules, everyone remains calm, patient and thorough. I never feel rushed and all of my questions are always answered. We live over an hour away and I continue to bring my pups here monthly for acupuncture and laser therapy. It truly has made the biggest difference in my dogs health and mobility. Thank you so much to everyone at Integrative Pet for taking such great care of my babies. Also, for being human and being there for me.
