How to Save Money at Heaven From Home

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

It was unfortunately time to say goodbye to my 4 year old pup, Ferris yesterday. Going to the vet for his illness became a regular routine during his life. I wanted his last moments to not be in a vet office. No matter how much I could ever try to calm him down, I knew the smells would remind him of where he was, dreading every moment. On top of that, car rides were 99% of the time exclusive to vet appointments, so he would start panicking then. Our time to say goodbye was inevitable to end his suffering, but he deserved those final moments to be as comfortable as possible. I started researching end of life care options and fell across Dr Wensing and a ocean of 5-star reviews with beautiful stories. She was able to accommodate any and every request to make this painful situation as blissful and beautiful as possible. Dr Wensing was gentle, respectful and kind through the entire experience, even taking the time to give some treats to make my dog comfortable with her. She validated our decision, which is helpful to our healing process. Literally an angel on earth. Her ability to create such a positive experience I’ll always be so thankful for. If your pet’s time is unfortunately approaching, know you have more options than the vet office and consider working with Dr Wensing. You can text her to inquire, which was great because even thinking about this had me hysterically sobbing and made it impossible to talk on the phone. Thank you again Dr Wensing!

At 16 years old, after a rich life that unfortunately included orthopedic surgery and cancer, my dog had developed a real phobia of our veterinarian, who is fabulous, but was still scary after so much. At our vet's suggestion, we called Heaven from Home when it was finally time to say goodbye, because they could come to our house. They were loving and kind to our child, to me, and of course to our beloved old dog. I will never regret calling them.

I can’t even begin to explain how hard this time was for me in November of 2022. A decision no one wants to make let alone experience with their companion. Dr.Wensing was the most empathetic, kind, understanding dr I have come across. She made my fur baby so comfortable and my fears slowly faded as she explained all the details. I can’t thank her enough for making such a hard time for me so peaceful in that moment. She is an angel sent to us all.

There is nobody more caring and resourceful than Dr. Wensing. Our 5-year old cat Harvey had soft tissue sarcoma, went through surgery, got a full recovery, but the cancer came back after 4 months. We researched, read all reviews, and decided to seek the best way to send him to Buddha's land. The first attempt is an angry hissing, followed by an escape, so dramatic we are shocked... Instead of restraining the cat and pushing ahead with the sedation shot, Dr Wensing stepped back and let him loose. She suggested we give Harvey more pain medicine, so he has a good pain-free vacation... we wait until he is weaker. The second attempt is a smooth journey to Buddha's land, as we prayed to his ears. Following her instructions, we prep Harvey with larger doses of pain medicine, to take away the pain from the cancer, then the pain from the sedation shot, to make him sleepy as side effect, so the sedation shot can go in with very little resistance. After that, Harvey is already sleeping so deep, the second shot stops his heart. We feel no contractions, no cries, just a peaceful sleep for his journey to Buddha's land. Dr. Wensing listens to his heart beats patiently, no rush... After the hair clippings, she left and waited, so we can pray and say our final goodbyes. Our other cat Mousie can see that Harvey is gone, and so she will not look for him. Thank you so much for your kind service.
