How to Save Money at Animal Hospital of Pleasanton

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

The best ever! My dog was limping, and I went to Belmont Veternian. The vet there said my dog had a should problem, and they wanted to charge me $1,200 for an x-ray. I decided to get a second opinion at Pleasanton Animal Hospital. The vet there told me my dog had a foxtail in his paw, which was the correct diagnosis. Within two days, my dog was back to normal. Love this place!

Please don't bring your beloved pet to this place! It was the worst decision I ever made in mi life to bring in my beloved kitty to this place. My heart is shattered in pieces, I'm traumatized about the way my loving cat left this world, and I barely find the strength to write this, my eyes are drowned in tears right now and my heart aches. My boy died of a heart failure in my car after seeing Dr. Hoque, in our way back home. Dr. Hoque is incompetent and the whole staff are heartless and horrible people. They don't love or care about cats or any pet at all. They knew my cat was beyond suffering and the Dr. never prescribed the right treatment since the first visit, and later he failed to offer hospitalization when my cat didn't not respond to kidney diet. Dr. Hoque prescribed kidney diet and he failed to give me the prescription in the first visit and diagnostic, I had to ask for it on the phone and make another trip to this place to get the prescription. I don't think this place is an animal hospital is less than anything else. Dr. Hoque deceived me telling me that my boy could live another two years with kidney diet and fluids. Be careful about buying fluids and medications here, I saw my boy health declined when I bought the second fluid pouch and appetite pills here, the fluid was a different brand from the first one, I asked them why I was not getting the same brand, they said it was out of stock. The new fluid brand and appetite pills right after giving to my boy it slowly killed him in the next two days... Also, be careful about using your credit card in this business. After using my credit card in my first visit, later at night I received notifications from my bank about unusual purchases of sports and other goods made outside California. My card was locked and I had to close the account after being compromised. I talked about this incident to the dr. and he didn't care, he said that this happen sometimes with credit cards... To conclude, I'm grieving in way that I never thought is going to be like this. I think I would have to ask for professional help to get over this loss process. Thank you for reading.

I needed urgent treatment for my cat, who collapsed on a Sunday, and her regular vet is not open on Sundays. The Animal Hospital of Pleasanton was there for us, got us in on a short notice, ran necessary tests. Unfortunately the results were not favorable for the cat, who was 19 years old, she had to be put down. The doctor described all options to us, suggested a treatment, but said that he doubts it would be successful, and also told us that the treatment would prolong the suffering of our beloved pet. This was done with utmost respect and appreciation of our feelings. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place.

I've been going here for years and Dr Teare was excellent. This is no longer the case now that Dr. Teare is gone. Recently my dog had her nails trimmed at this facility. When I called beforehand, I was told that it would cost $20. Not only did they do a terrible job, but after the appointment they charged me $35. If you are looking for an honest and competent provider, go elsewhere.
