How to Save Money at Animal-AM Emergency Clinic of Pasadena

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

They were not up front about my dogs condition and recommended expensive tests and antibiotics which I paid for before taking her home and having her rapidly decline just to have her put down the next day. It was expensive to put her down as well and I was not allowed to stay with her through her last breath. The choice was to drop her off and let them kill her or wait in the waiting room in agony to see if by chance they could help her meanwhile she is in pain and possibly die on me while I wait.

A totally mixed bag of caring, helpful vets and techs and utterly unkind and insensitive receptionists here. I came on a Monday morning as a walk-in, happily waited an hour for the vet to see my sick cat in between appointments, and left with medication (but declining more expensive tests in favor of seeing how the medication helped her overnight). The vet tech himself suggested I wait 24 hours and if there was no improvement from the meds, come back again as a walk-in to run tests. I did just that, only to be summarily turned away (from a completely empty waiting room), but not before being shamed for declining the previous day’s suggested tests. The receptionist even printed out a sample bill and used a highlighter for emphasis! Totally unnecessary and insensitive since they’d just declined to help us. I walked in expecting to pay for the necessary but expensive tests that day; instead I left in tears and came to VCA Animal Specialty Group in Glendale, who saw my cat right away and met us both with total kindness and compassion. This vet did both my cat and me a favor by showing their true colors this morning, and I hope to do the same for you by warning you against this inconsistent (at best) and uncaring (at worst) establishment. Go elsewhere.

Idk why their stars are so low. Love this place! Vet techs & doctor’s are super friendly. I have a rambunctious fur baby that unfortunately needed emergency stitches. I called around everywhere & no one would take him. Drove to Pasadena & waited. Yes, I had to wait and no I didn’t mind. I think it was a couple of hours but anything for my fur baby. I ended up going home & came back for him after treatment. He’s been back since for an eye infection. I think it’s perfect place to take my fur baby when medical emergencies come up. Some of the reviews are lame. You are going to complain about someone’s accent ? Really? Or how about the office procedure of having your id & credit card? The receptionist didn’t make up the rule. My concern is I hope you aren’t driving without a drivers license. Also, it’s called an emergency vet clinic so just like an er they have to run tests to determine your fur baby’s issue. They give you a price and you sign before treatment so you could of walked away at that point. Don’t be upset, the doctors were just trying to do their job! The prices here are comparable to other vet clinics.

Dr. Mohaghegh operated on my 15 year old German Shepherd when he was just a pup, saving his life. It was a risky, he had a huge tumor on the bottom of his tongue...Dr Mo removed the tumor and a portion of his tongue also. He just had the road trip of his life traveling from California to Florida and back... he's still living a blessed life. Thanks again Dr. Mo...WE LOVE YOU!

The quality of the doctors here seems to have deteriorated greatly since I first began bringing my pets here. Had to bring my cat in after she had a coyote encounter. First off, the doctor we saw didn’t listen and/or comprehend when I told him that coyotes had come after her. His accent made it very difficult to understand the vague timid answers to my questions and it took some doing to make him understand that I actually saw the coyotes in my front yard to get it to sink in. Unbelievable. Honestly, I’m so annoyed and frustrated right now that I can’t even detail all the things I found incompetent about his whole demeanor and performance, not to mention that I was told the visit would cost one thing and then I get to the office to find that I was given incomplete information when I spoke to one of their staff over the phone. The more I think about this waste of time and money, the angrier i get.
