How to Save Money at East Chapman Veterinary Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

We love East Chapman Vet Center! We became a retirement home of a local celebrity, Sunny, from the flowerdale nursery (yes, the friendly white cat). Sunny has been a long time patient of ECV and we moved our other kitty and 2 dogs to them after meeting them for our first visit with Sunny. Everyone, I mean everyone, from the front office staff to the vet techs to Dr Shayda to covering Drs in her absence, are lovely, helpful, kind, and compassionate. No one likes to go to the vet, except maybe Sunny. He is pampered and loved on the moment we arrive. He and our other animals are treated by everyone as if they are their own. I trust them to be honest, fair and guide me in making difficult decisions. In the last few months Sunny has needed to be seen quite a few times for his kidneys, and although it can be nerve wracking to spend so much time at the vet, every. single. time. I know he’s getting the best care. I see some reviews mentioning long wait times, the only time I experienced this was when I needed to walk in without an appointment (and I wasn’t the only worried pet parent having a stressful health situation at the same time/day) imagine having a full day of appointments but ALSO allowing walk-ins between appointments so that as a pet parent you and your lil baby get some relief the same day… I would assume there would be a wait, I know that’s not ideal but that’s pretty normal in an urgent non appointment situation. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. To each and every staff member for making all our babies feel loved and cared for. You are appreciated beyond measure. ❤️🙏🏻

This vet is the worst vet I have ever been to. I lost my one year old puppy due to negligence. I went here due to her swallowing a toy and they explained that the x rays were good and that she would be fine. Not even 24 hours later she was septic. I took her to another vet who said they should have done an ultrasound and that x-rays cannot show a tear or leaking abdomen. After that she went to the ER for life saving measures but did not make it ( which the ER was also shocked they did not do ultrasound). The lying was insane as they first said it was routine to not do an ultrasound but after questioning more they explained there was no ultrasound tech on scene that day because it was Friday. They were lazy and just wanted to go home and enjoy their weekend, therefore letting my dog die. You would think the right thing to do is to send the dog to another vet for an ultrasound if they did not have time or resources. (i did not get refunded for the x-ray nor were there any apologies or condolences for their wrong doing. Extremely selfish and cruel vet)

Great place- if you’d love to WAIT and smell dog urine. I gave this company two chances to earn my business. Both times I ended up walking out after waiting 30-35 minutes to see a veterinary doctor. Both times I conveyed my disappointment with the office staff. This front office staff have told me to essentially deal with it or choose another vet. The manager even when so far as to tell me that because I was late, they’re making me wait. And to respect the doctor’s time in the future. Seriously, good riddance. I’m just sad with myself for wasting my personal time twice. Shame on me.

I have been taking my Rusty here ever since I got her at 8 weeks old (she is almost 3). I never have to wait long, and the staff clearly cares about animals. Recently she needed a couple vaccines. They always call the next day to check and see how she is doing. The last time I brought her in they mentioned a couple more vaccines that were optional but said could be beneficial. I asked the staff to be upfront with me on if they thought it was necessary. I was given a great honest answer about it and chose to skip this vaccine, for now. I always suggest this vet to my friends.

Really great, thoughtful team. They specialize in Bulldogs and their expertise shows! I really appreciate how they communicate and care for my English Bulldog. He actually gets excited to go in because he knows he is going to get affection from the staff. We were introduced to them by SoCal Bulldog Rescue, whom they work with extensively. Support this great business!!! 🤙😎🐶
