How to Save Money at Northridge Animal Medical Center

Schedule Regular Vet Visits

One of the best ways to save on vet bills is to prevent expensive health issues before they develop. By scheduling regular wellness checkups, your vet can detect health issues early, helping you to avoid costly treatments and surgeries down the road.

Price Shop for Pet Prescriptions

Oftentimes our fur babies are prescribed human drugs off-label. Your vet is apt to charge more for these medications than you would pay at your local pharmacy. In fact, big-box or chain pharmacies can offer steep discounts. So it’s best to price shop.

Pet Insurance

Most pet insurance providers will pay between 80% and 90% of the vet bill. You can even get coverage for routine care and things like vaccinations and dental cleanings. If you do the math, you’ll most likely find that pet insurance makes financial sense in the long run as well as gives you peace of mind.

Getting to Know Your New Vet: Essential Questions to Ask

Choosing a new veterinarian is an important decision for any pet owner. You want to find someone who is competent, compassionate, and a good fit for you and your fur baby. To help you get the most out of your first appointment, here's a list of essential questions to ask your new vet:

Tell me about your experience with [pet type].

Different vets have different areas of specialization. Some are experts with cats, some dogs, some pocket pets, and some horses. Knowing that your vet has vast experience treating your specific type of pet can bring you peace of mind.

How do you handle emergencies?

You must know what to do in case of a pet medical emergency. Inquire what after-hours policy the clinic has, whether they have on-site emergency care available, and if they have a relationship with any nearby emergency animal hospitals.

How do you communicate with pet owners?

Good communication is key to building a trusting relationship with your vet. Ask how they prefer to communicate (phone calls, emails, online portal) and how often you can expect to hear from them.

Are there any breed-specific health concerns I should be aware of?

Some breeds are predisposed to certain health conditions. Knowing what to watch out for can help you catch problems early and get your pet the treatment they need.

Do you have any questions for me about my pet?

This is a great question to ask because the answer will show that the vet is interested in getting to know your pet as an individual and is willing to listen to your concerns.

Bonus question: Can I take a tour of your facility?

Getting a feel for the clinic's environment can help you and your pet feel more comfortable during your visits. Remember, you’re not just looking for a veterinarian, you’re looking for a partnership. Do not be afraid to ask these questions and any others you can think of. Any vet worth their salt will be happy to answer them. Because the more informed you are, the better equipped you'll be to make decisions about your pet's care! And that should be every vet’s top priority.

Great place! This last time we had Dr. Thordarson. He is a very caring vet. He really explained the issues and showed much compassion. Thank you to Dr. Marco, too. Overall, their team made our repeated visits great.

Dr Marco has been seeing my pets for over 15 years. I enjoy seeing him and his office is always nice and clean.

Dr. Marco and staff have been taking care of Sargent since I adopted him in May 2010. Sargent passed away at Access Specialty Hospital on Feb 15,2021. He was 13 years old. Dr. Marco and staff sent a condolence card to me, This was appreciated very much and let me know that they loved Sarge as much as we did.

I came in with my puppy a wk ago! For a welfare check. Vet didn’t barely check the dog…didn’t weigh the dog didn’t take temp… had an issue with her paws looking wonky… the vet didn’t even touch her paws to check for pain… told me I can pay 500$ for X-ray if I want… n wait for another dr to see her! No answers as far what it could be… I figured it out myself with online research! It was normal n self corrected in a few days! The dr called to apologize! I was livid I payed for this! I decided I’m not going to write a bad review n give this a second chance! Called the office today hoping to have a make up appointment… I was told the dr is out of town the management is out n no one can accommodate unless I pay again… most likely for nothing!!! Wouldn’t recommend this experience! It had me in tears! My new puppy could have a major problem n no one knows nothing not even a hypothesis of what it could be! Felt like I knew more n was talking more! N the dr just agreed with whatever I said! I was told maybe it’s nothing.. maybe she need surgery! I’m like what about surgery being last resort! What if I have a person come to my hospital without checking them look at them n say… surgery! Insane! At the end nothing was wrong with my puppy n luckily I saved 500$ n only lost the 55$ useless visit charge! Sad my 1st ever visit n this! Also my puppy got kennel cough few days after… that’s could come from other dogs… we haven’t been near any other animals.. wonder if that’s a gift she got from that office! Not cleaning the area!

The chiropractor, Dr. Hayworth, who visits this office once a week, is absolutely wonderful. She is not only a very skilled chiropractor, but she is kind and gentle, and clearly cares deeply about helping animals feel better. She is amazing with my senior dog, and her adjustments have made a huge difference in my dog's quality of life. When we leave the office she's always moving so much better, and obviously feels so much better! For anyone who has a pet that is having mobility issues, this treatment is incredibly beneficial, and you couldn't ask for a better Dr.
